Why do penguin fans think chuck has any value? Is it bc you guys got roasted on a kessel trade or bc you honestly think he has any value? He has at most a 3rd round pick and DeSmith also maybe is worth a 3rd. How does that get you 40 point player on a reasonable contract ? Teams would offer way more for that player. How about the leafs give you hyman for Rust? Or ceci for Dumoulin?

This trade is literally because no one thinks he has value. It's about the Leafs getting a goalie and the Penguins getting someone better than Galchenyuk.

He's extraneous here.

"ow about the leafs give you hyman for Rust? Or ceci for Dumoulin?

Stop.

Leafs could get DeSmith or even Copley for a 3rd round pick probably less. Why would they give you a good player for absolute garbage return?

They don't have the cap space to do a DeSmith swap without salary retention. They basically can only take on league minimum type contracts by sending their depth players down to the AHL.

For the Penguins, retaining three years of a player for a team at the cap is less than ideal. So they need incentive to do it. Meanwhile, the Leafs could also give up one of their wingers like Kapanen or Johnsson to fix their cap issues for this year.

Also, Copley sucks. That's no better than their current backup situation. DeSmith has been good in both the NHL and AHL over the last two years.

Last year

Copley: 16-7-3 2.90gga

DeSmith 15-11-5 2.75gga

Haha yeah both are very average goalies Copley just wins way more often. Your clueless and again your trade show it. Also leafs put their current backup on waivers and that clears up the space. Just obvious stuff here. They give you a 40 point player for 300k retained salary haha come on now.

They didnt get roasted on the kessel trade. His time was done and became a pp specialist and liability on defense and became too complacent which didnt go well with sullivan and malkin.

You traded an 80 -90 point player for an average d prospect and a massive downgrade at Wing. You got roasted. Explain how that’s a win at all?

Oh those examples are better than the trash you offered in your trade. I was showing how terrible that deal is but in a form you could understand.

I like how you leave out the save percentages. You need to stop being intellectually dishonest. Evaluating goalies based on record? GAA? Can't possibly be this stupid. "gga".lol.

Are you unable to do math? Their current backup makes 700k, which is 500k less than DeSmith. You are infuriating. Stop it and go do something else.

Az is currently sitting in a playoff spot so exactly what he was sent their to do. Ha Az has a top 10 power play which was a massive weak point last year.

Bud nobody is giving you a tip 6 winger bc you retained 300k go back to neverland Peter Pan or grow up and understand your trade is terrible. Yeah why don’t you just add danger zone chances and other factors or let’s focus on the actual thing that matter with a backup goalie which is wins. Nobody gives a f about any other stat of a back up besides wins. Again shows how clueless you truly are.their job is to literally earn a win while the starter gets a break. Hahaha that’s it. 7-6 or 2-1 a win is a win

DeSmith is an overpaid ahl goalie haha no better than what leafs currently have now. Go to bed

And the pens are sitting in a playoff spot too without him, so not really seeing your point. Plus I asked you what hes doing in arizona. By the looks of it, 1 even strength goal isn't really too impressive. His time was done. Sullivan didnt like his defensive play and malkin didnt want to play with him. Galchenyuk is off the books this year and now they have cap space for their RFAs.

Bud, learn how to do math and then maybe talk.

"Nobody gives a f about any other stat of a back up besides wins. " Possibly the dumbest thing I have read on here. It's impressive, really. Wins are a team stat.

I’m simply pointed out he’s put their pp into the top 10? Literally why they brought him in. Penguins are barely in a spot mainly due to injuries but kessel made them a much better team than without him. That’s just obvious. Also we were focusing on penguins getting fleeced not what kessel did. Most 80-90 point players could get you a first round pick but gmjr loves these fix up players. Like jugs who is also terrible

Bud your trade is terrible please do better and dont get mad bc it shows a lack you thought on your end. To think you could get a top 6 forwar for a struggling ufa and an overpaid ahl goalie is silly. Just do better.

But you said the penguins got roasted in the trade, which is untrue. They have cap space to do what they need to do now. Why keep that contract when hes a defensive liability, the center he wants to play with doesn't want to have him on his line, hes not playing into the coaches system, and his 5v5 production is decreasing?

I mean if cap space is what you’re after you could have just got a 1st round pick and that would have been a bigger win.

Not true. Kessel had his list of teams he wanted to be traded to. Some teams could not fit his cap hit, like arizona, so a contract needed to come back. Teams aren't giving up a 1st rounder for an aging winger that plays zero defense. ARZ got their winger, pittsburgh gets their cap space and speedy defensive wingers. Neither team lost

Penguins saved less than 2 million? Ha agree to disagree on the cap they saved especially when they overpaid Tanev. Not that he’s a bad player and he’s been gold for them but he was overpaid by a pretty penny

No, they get cap space for this coming offseason.... yanno when they need to pay their RFA's. They are doing fine without kessel. They absolutely didn't lose the trade. They are still scoring goals without him, but now they are better defensively

They indeed lost and AZ is currently top 5 in GGA and they were bottom 5 last year. Power play was 16% last year and is 21%. They are playing better penguins are about the same I think there gaa are slightly less but AZ seems to have improved greatly I’d say you lost by a lot but i guess it was a lose lose situation.agree to disagree

And the pens are 6th in goals scored without playing 1 healthy game all year and missing crosby and malkin for a good portion of the year. They allowed the 7th fewest goals too. They indeed did not lose the trade. Youre not making a good case. All you have is ARZ power play %. Its simple. Kessel was content with his cups. Him and Sullivan weren't on the same page. Kessel wanted to play with malkin, but malkin did not want to play with him. Kessel wanted to play for Tocchet, and he got his wish. Pens now have the money to sign their RFA's.

Yeah but with Crosby out you always get the bets malkin. Malkin is playing at a level now that I would be hard to argue that he is t a top 5 center in the nhl. He’s also considered “lazy” and awful defensively. People tend to use that as an excuse. Kessel is a competitive guy doubt he was okay with his 2 cups. If that was the case wouldn’t he be okay with his 1 cup? And you did lose. Explain how losing a 80-90 point player for pennies on the dollar isn’t getting bent over a barrel ? Now I understand it was the best case scenario but again that doesn’t mean you didn’t lose the deal. Kessel value was higher when you traded him than when you got him. He cost you a 1st and your top prospect
