Isn't it always a matter of perspective? You can assume that Edmonton, regardless of their recent season disappoints, are the "best" situation for him. He has a home in Edmonton, he is beloved by fans, he has all his teammate's ears and focus in their dressing room. That's what the Oilers would surely say. Is that what McDavid would say? Hard to say. He obviously loves Edmonton, otherwise he would not have signed such a long-term deal coming off his ELC - he had options for a more short term deal, even 5 years, but he chose against it, and took less, to try and "help" the team through cap issues.

So again, a matter of perspective. Does a team that continuously has winning seasons, and go far in the playoffs, offer him a better situation? Maybe. If not for the salary cap, this would all be much much easier, but that's a huge consideration when you are trying to move $12.5 million AAV. I would say the Sharks would offer him an interesting opportunity, where not only the weather is constantly nice, or significantly nicer than Edmonton (ha! :P), but aside from this outlier of a season, so far, they have been a competitive team for quite some time. There are other teams similar. Certainly Tampa Bay and Boston would be similar situations, with the Lightning also able to offer tax incentives to his contract. The question will be, is there a deal out there that satisfies Edmonton enough to consider a move? I would say no. Without McDavid, Edmonton would surely be one of the worst teams again this season.

So what would it take? I would say, as purely a hypothetical, something like Braydon Point and Victor Hedman (and maybe a 1st rounder) could get you McDavid.

What about Draisaitl I know he loves playing with McDavid and McDavid with him, so does that piss him off?

Plus McDavid isn't going to carry the Kings to a cup by himself.

I would tend to agree with you, but possibly sergachev and cap hit causality type and another pick, instead of hedman and you solved it, just leaning a little younger than hedman.

Problem with that trade is that in return they would need a premier scorer, premier set up man that is strong in his own end. Fitting all that into 12.5 million is not easy. I think the only way that trade ever happens is super star for super star+, or a star forward and a top pairing d man+. It's too much to give up for a team to just receive one player even if he is the best player on the planet.

Being a Calgary fan and trying to fit the above scenario I think it would be along the lines of:

Tkachuk
Hanifin
Valimaki
1st
1st
2nd
Etc.

For

McDavid and whatever makes the capwork.

That pillages the Flames left side leaving them with Giordano and Kylington, leaves them with one top 6 left winger in Gaudreau and what I have above may not even get thee deal done. Only realistic scenario I could see would be a swap for a guy like Matthews, Eichel, Petterson etc etc.

I still think the oil could be a hawks type team 08 or 09, but missing the Kieth and Campbell, no easy task to solve, but hopefully holland can solve with a veteran piece for Campbell and bear can turn into Kieth and nurse into seabrook, but then still missing some key forward depth, so Holland better have some magic. Those hawks were pre salary cap too so good luck

I would presume that Edmonton would want competitive pieces immediately to make up for the loss. So a Norris trophy winner Hedman and a young capable highly offensive centre in Point would, to me, be the asking price. Tampa may not be willing to give that up, but surely Edmonton would prefer Hedman over Sergachev and another pick. I would specifically add that I think Edmonton would insist on a young'ish top pairing defender as part of this deal, just because that's something they don't really have, and there are only so many teams that could even offer that.

Ok don't know why you are offering me luck. Since I'm a Detroit fan and not an Oilers or a Hawks fan.

Was just think Edmonton would have to ask the fan base for new gm, more time, and please don’t throw the jerseys on the ice I’d burn. Crazy times with hard cap got to catch the right nucleus all similar age and get it right, and find the right elc and vets to mix in.

Just a general statement on a build. You burnt all your luck, lots of years of mediocre years ahead after such a dominate run. Caught last jets 1.0 game ever in wpg, that Detroit team was amazing and stacked. Konstantinov doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves, one of the best all around defenseman ever.
