I don't want any part of PK Subban. Even with that retention. Hard pass.

Interesting that Subban is isn't as good as Ceci, and the Leafs would stuck with Subban for another two years at 4.5m. I'll take Ceci this year, the picks and 4.5m cap freedom for the next two years easily.

I can't for the life of me understand why you love Ceci so much. He just isn't very good. Subban isn't what he used to be but he's still a lot better than Ceci. I agree I wouldn't bring him on board because I am not sure he's going to be worth even 4.5 but to suggest Ceci is better is very confusing to me. He's weakest player on the Leafs blueline and the one thing after a backup that the Leafs should look at upgrading.

You're both nuts with this hate on Subban.
Norris winner, nominated 2 other times, consistent 40 pt Dman, over 11yr career is consistently a + player, only 2 years left on contract, has never won a cup (hungry) above average playoff numbers. 9 mill per yup too steep, at 5/6 mill per is a steal.

Ceci is flat terrible and is having an ok year playing with great players, he's crap, always has been and always will be.

I think he'll find a niche being a bottom pair guy somewhere but he's really not good at all. The more I watch him play the clearer it is that he's the weakest link in TO.

I have no hate for Subban at all. He is nowhere near the defensman that he once was and that is critically important. I have ZERO love for Cody Ceci. In fact, I am on record here wanting him traded on the regular. He is a bottom pairing guy who makes far too much money for what he contributes.

Here is a quote from The Athletic that I believe sums up Cody Ceci and his value to this team...

"At some point, I think we need to come to grips with the fact that Cody Ceci isn’t a very good NHL player. I’ve been rooting for him all season — and continue to — but there are still going to be those nights when he skates the puck up the ice, looks like he’s about to make a good play and does something extremely bizarre.

On Saturday, it was a flip-up into the stands. Last week, it was a point shot into a referee — who was standing in the corner. He doesn’t have great puck skills, struggles to make the right decision under pressure, plays an overly conservative gap in transition and allows way too many passes through the middle of the ice. If we’re being objective, he’s probably one of the worst defencemen in the NHL — which any reasonable Senators fan could’ve told you six months ago."

Ceci out.... YES!
Subban in... NO!

There are better options out there.

Ceci would be a whole lot better at 1.5mil instead of 4.5mil.

So a garbage return gets you Subban at half retention, Not hardly. Even Shero's not that dumb.

My love for Ceci? No. But I appreciate that he has been OK for the Leafs, better than Barrie this season. So if non hockey fans, just go by the CapFriendlhy posts that started in July that Ceci is so bad and Barrie has been good...so be it.
Ceci's contract yep at 4.5m is too high. So what, that contract won't be around next year. Certainly don't want the 2019/20/21/22 version of Subban on my team at 4.5m.
I probably yet to see one good trade of Ceci from the Leafs that gets them a equal or better Dman that doesn't cost a ridiculously high price such as Kapanen.

We'll say how new Leafs play out under Keefe, maybe changes are needed. Holl is finally getting regular minutes, and now the three RHD have looked competent lately. Last four games, all on the road, St Louis, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Three wins and just eight goals against. Maybe this is the new norm.

Well show my reasonable trade where the Leafs can get a 1.5m RHD in exchange for 4.5m Ceci. that makes the Leaf better. I have yet to see one.
Gee, I don't like Nylander at 7m or Matthews at 11.6m making him second highest paid player in the league, so should these non value cap players get traded too?
Probably all teams have 7 guys making too little, 9 guys about right, and 7 guys too much on their contracts, so it's not like the Leafs are unique.

That return is garbage, a fair value deal would look more like Johansson, Ceci, 2020 2nd and the 2022 second with a condition becomes a 1st if at any point during Subban's current contract Leafs make the east finals or resign him

I doubt the retention is 50% more like 2.5 to 3 million retention putting Subban's hit at 6/6.5 which is a fair cap hit for what Subban could bring this season and the next 2
