how to use retained salary box properly?

Can someone tell/show me how to use the 'retained salary' feature? Do you enter salary or percentage? I have tried with no luck to get it to generate properly.

You input the salary, without any symbols. For example, $3,750,000 would be 3750000

Just to be absolutely clear, don't use commas (as well as the dollar sign)
