NJ Fans - Thoughts

Initial Creation Date: Nov. 21, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the value isn't right on let me know how much more you think it would cost. Basically this breaks down to Johnsson for Wood, Johnsson brings more offense but Wood is tougher/brings more grit. My own opinion is that Johnsson is worth more but that's a fair debate as Wood brings different elements to the game. The other part of the deal is Vatanen for a 2nd and 3rd. Ceci is only there to make the cap work.

Yeah that's a really interesting deal, I'd think the Devils have to go for it.

This version of Woods probably doesn't even get ice time with Engvall, Timashov, Gauthier, Hyman and Mikheyvov, as LWer.
Is Vatanen really that much of an improvement over Ceci to sacrifice Johnsson and the two picks.

In my opinion he is.
I'm open to listening to other opinions obviously, that's why we're here smile

I should add that I really like Woods too. If it were just Johnsson and the picks for Vatanen then I'd say no deal. But Woods brings a ton of what the Leafs need

OK, I respect that if that is your take on Vatanen. But why have seen some many posts where the bottom feeding Devils have all these great RHDs....Vatanen, Subban and Severson and the Leafs (only the Leafs) have to pay such a price to acquire these players. Of course it has been a CF trend for years that all Leaf Dmen are so bad and they and any other Dman in the league could be traded and it would be an improvement/

I’d prefer to see the leafs swing a deal for Coleman instead of wood. He’s a big body for the Matthews line and he can put up points. Not sure what that asking price would be though

I agree that there's a bias when it comes to Leaf players but when I watch Vatanen I just see a solid defender that can help in all areas. PK, PP, even, he'd be an asset everywhere.

Vats is a better D man than Ceci (on target to have about 36 pts on this tire fire of a team, 20 more than Ceci). If Shero finds that he is not interested in signing here, move him. I more interested in Kapanen, we have a lot of LS wingers, so RW is more of a need IMO. Of course we need everything. Unless they burn it down, Coleman is probably staying. Vats at 50 off for Kapanen and Ceci if you have to move $. With a +/- to make it equal. If in fact Sami says no, maybe shero adds a conditional pick for not resigning in Tor.

Value aside I'm not sure they'd move Kapanen for a rental. His value to the team is pretty high considering he plays the PK, PP and can move around the lineup.

I get it. It comes down to a need thing for both groups. Is KK is playing much better than AJ?

If I'm Shero, I take this call....and either ask for Kapanen (instead of Johnsson) or ask for Mike Koster to be added.

Woods

Its Wood. Miles Wood. No "s" at end.

I more interested in Kapanen

Agree here...NJD has weakness on right side after Palmieri. Gusev is righty, but more of off-hand winger. Simmons is not the long term option.

They just have different roles. Kap is more of a two-way presence whereas Johnsson gets more PP time.
