RHD and Backup

Created by: Sufferingleafsfan
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 18, 2019
Published: Dec. 18, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Pesce, Brett
Additional Details:
Carolina has the depth on D to make this kind of 'hockey' trade that gives them the scoring punch they want for a playoff push.
CAR
  1. Hollowell, Mac
  2. Kapanen, Kasperi
  3. 2020 4th round pick (VGK)
  4. 2020 6th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Toronto gets the D that they need and gives up one of their abundance of wingers. TO is negotiating from a position of weakness hence the picks and a B-Level D prospect going the other way in addition to Kap.
2.
TOR
  1. 2020 6th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
At the deadline the Ducks can take on the cap hit and Ceci is a useful 5/6 D who can eat minutes and would be an asset as a veteran presence on the ANA rebuild (particularly at a lower cap)

The 6th round pick is conditional on Ceci playing 80% of ANA remaining games if he does not then no pick at all.
ANA
  1. Ceci, Cody
Additional Details:
As much as I would actually like to keep Cody Ceci I think he's a useful 5/6 D in the NHL his cap hit is the obvious one to move to give the Leafs cap flexibility, particularly after the Pesce trade.
3.
TOR
  1. Jarry, Tristan
Additional Details:
I know this is a big move I'M FULLY AWARE. My rationale of why it MAY be possible is that the Pens are in still in the 'win while Crosby+Malkin's window is open'. For that reason this trade could also be Murray with %50 retention. I think that the package is good enough to pull Jarry away from Pitt.
PIT
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Marincin, Martin
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (CBJ)
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
I know Marinicin is not a flashy name but the Pens could use D-Depth and Marinicin is just that a 7th D. The Pens also get a B-Level prospect in Bracco who is ready for an NHL shot either this season or next that he won't get with the Leafs. 3rd rounder this year.

20201 2nd round pick become 2021 FIRST ROUND pick if Jarry wins 35 games for the Leafs over the remainder of this 2019/2020 season AND the 2020/2021 season.

I just don't think that there is an chance that the Canes move Pesce unless the package coming back really blows the doors off. This one doesn't.

I doubt Jarry gets traded either, he is their best goalie at present.

I'm absolutely fine with the Ceci deal. I just want him and his cap hit out of town ASAP.

I like your thought process here man but I just don't see the Pittsburgh or Carolina trades as realistic at present.

How do you overpay that much for Jarry and give basically nothing for Pesce?

I don't understand your logic on the Pens deal. You wrote that the Pens are in a win mode, but then you trade away maybe their best goalie for futures.
While the Canes might have depth on defence this year, they have two regulars as UFA next summer . Kapanen is really 2nd line forward at best, and can't be acquired why straight up for a top four RHD on a great contract. Those added pieces by the Leafs, really kinda meaningless in an NHL trade.

Pittsburgh wouldn't move Jarry.
That's a sad return for Pesce.

The Pesce deal needs significant improvement.

Also, as much as leaf fans hate to hear this...but there is not a market for Jeremy Bracco.
