AA - Pool Party trade idea

Created by: TMarch
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2019
Published: Dec. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Pool Party's rights, along with 2 cap dumps (Gagner and Manning) and a mid round pick to DET for AA.

The pick is to have DET pay the salaries for the remainder of the year. It would net EDM about 2.5mm for the remainder of the year, which can be used at the TDL if they want to bolster their lineup. It also gives EDM another fast weapon to go with RNH and McDavid. And control over AA (as he's an RFA).

For DET, they are accumulating cap space (hence the Zadina and McIlarth "send down" last week for cap management purposes) to allow them to take on a bad contract or two for picks/prospects. DET could then flip Gagner and Manning, waive them, or play them and they would be UFAs at the end of the year.

Welcome to the board. No. This has been posted a hundred times, but Detroit does not want Puljujarvi if the trade involves AA, and they definitely aren't giving away cap space to make a trade that doesn't help them in the first place.

How does this benefit Detroit? Pool-Party is playing over in Finland for a reason. And that reason is he's not very good. Manning is a 3rd pairing LD that will be 30 years old next summer and a pending UFA and Gagner a pending UFA This is selling low on AA and FWIW AA and Ferris had tumultuous relations with Holland. The odds of AA signing long term with Edmonton is slim to none. None of this does Detroit any good.

Athanasiou -for- Puljujärvi, Gagner, Manning, 3rd

So you are saying that Athanasiou's value is basically... nothing.

The 3rd basically covers the cap dumps of Gagner and Manning, giving Edmonton space to make real moves...
Puljujarvi is not an NHL caliber player, value = approximately zero.

Athanasiou = net value of (3 - 1 - 2) + (0) = 0

After these 4 posts I have got nothing. I'm happy to see I'm not the only person who thinks Poolparty isn't a NHL player.

If JP is the main piece of the trade, it's probably not a good trade.
