ROR would not have a cup and would be demanding a trade.

The center depth of the team would be the best in the league. Eichel-ROR-Mittelstadt and eventually Cozens

That Bogosian ain't happening with any team. Sabres didn't have the cap to afford ROR with their current lineup...especially if you don't want any carryover bonuses.
You can't compare what ROR did in St Louis to would he would have done as a Sabre. Actually to mid January the trade looked good in Sabres favour. Main long term benefit to the Sabres in that trade was to get cap relief...and hopefully spend it wisely. Didn't Sabres acquire Montour with that St Louis pick?

We got montour with the san jose trade.

The cap space is only because of berglund personal troubles and sobotka being on LTIR. This team literally shows the cap space working

They easily could've afforded him this year. Berglund and Sobotka combined made .15 million less than O'Reilly makes and if you're worried about it this year then they could've just not traded for Miller and would've been under the cap. A couple years down the road it might've been a problem but you can figure that out then.

We lucked into pick 29 and pick 31. We got san joses pick 29 along with danny o'something for evander kane. Pick 29 and guhle went to the ducks for montour. And as far as cap space, by taking back berglund, sobotka, and thompson, there wasnt much cap space freed up. However, since we made berglund quit hockey and leave 13 million on the table, sobotka will be on ltir for the rest of his time here, and thompson looks like a bust, we somehow did manage cap space in that horrible deal.
