Trading away 3 major pieces of the Kings core and giving them nothing in return? Why would the Kings do that?

Bc quick has one of the worst contracts in the league and has been a bottom 3 goalie in the league the past two years while Murray has at least been close to average and is like 10 years younger...

Think you forgot to include the 2020 1st, 2021 1st, 2022 1st and 2023 1st round picks to that MTL trade.

The Kings have their goaltending pipeline set for at least the next 8-10 years, with Petersen ready to take the reins as early as this season's trade deadline. They have no need of Matt Murray.

Quick has actually been exceptional lately and earning that hefty contract of his. He had an abysmal start to the season, but look at his numbers over the past 6-7 weeks.

https://www.nhl.com/player/jonathan-quick-8471734?stats=splits-r-nhl&season=20192020

OCT: 4.55 GAA, .858 SV%
NOV: 2.42 GAA, .906 SV%
DEC: 2.14 GAA, .926 SV%

While they might explore some trade opportunities over the next couple years, they're definitely not going to pay to get rid of him. It's most likely that he will finish out his contract (and likely his career) in a Kings uniform, unless Seattle decides to take him in the expansion draft.

Likewise, Carter has been really good lately, currently working on a 5-game point streak. He and Kopitar were the best players on the ice the other night in the Kings unlikely win against Boston.

Toffoli will likely be traded this season, but they're looking for teenage prospects and draft picks, not guys in their mid-20s. This trade does not make the Kings better in the long term.

So bc he's played one good month in the past two years he's worth 5mil or whatever he makes... That makes up for having a bottom 3-5 GSAA, GSAx, (which ik Murray isn't good in this year either, but he's been historically average) and hdSV%... And idk much about Carter, but I would assume you'd want to trade him for some younger assets, and the general value I've seen around toffoli is like a second and low-mid level spec...

No because he won 2 cups he’s worth 5 million bucks. He wasn’t given that contract this summer he already had it. I don’t think any of those teams go for that. And if the pens did trade Murray they wouldn’t want quick back as a 5 million dollar backup. Because if they trade Murray that means they are convinced Jarry is the new starter. I think Carter and quick will stick around unless it’s for a package of picks and Toffoli will prob be dealt for picks

Quick has bad numbers because the team has been terrible in front of him. The team has been better lately, and Quick has been standing on his head to help them steal several games that they shouldn't. I'm not saying he's the Quick of 5 years ago, but he's definitely not a Quick that you pay to get rid of either.

The Kings will actively pursue trading all of those guys, Quick included. That doesn't mean they're going to take back guys that don't help the team's rebuild at all just to dump them.

Replace the guys in this trade with a couple 2nds and some B-quality expansion draft prospects (Hallander, Bellerive, PO Joseph) and the Kings might go for it.

Agree completely Both the kings goalies were left out to dry the beginning of this year. You could tell the team was running around not sure of themselves and their positioning. As the team has played better the goaltending has got better. Quick had a sub par year last year but he looks much better this year. Everyone has down years, goalies just get blown up more when they do. This team looks so much better this year. As they get the new system down they look like a completely different team from last year.
