Don't think I would do that Tatar trade. Petry I would though.

Petry + Tatar + 1st isn't worth Byfield, sorry.

If anybody takes anyone not named laf 1OA they do not deserve to be an NHL GM/scout anymore

I agree but Yzerman and Bowman went completely off script last season. Montreal has had made a couple of head scratching picks but it just seems to workout for them.

That's a hard trade to do, but I imagine we would do it.

Random draft ramblings alert, I mean Seider was like 10-12 in most boards, reach of 4-6, Dach was ranked 4-6, the worst pick was Broberg at 8, the vast majority of boards I saw had him in the mid 20's (I personally even had him behind Harley, and I was really low on Harley... That is a cold take now, Harley is really good, but I had Seider Heinola York and Harley ahead of Broberg) but back from the mad draft ramblings, taking anyone over Laf would be like taking anyone over McDavid in 2015

Would Byfield be better than 3 draft picks in the teens?

First I'm not saying things won't end up working out. The lowest I saw Seider was #15 and just about every analyst said "I really like Seider but not there!" I know that Yzerman did a lot of scouting and not just in North America but thought Europe as well. Since he was still under contract so he could do anything with the Wings but watch. So I think it will workout but no one saw that coming. Taking Dach over Byrum most Hawks fans were angry or stunned like someone just punched in the stomach. Colorado were acting like kids on Christmas morning. Once again I'm not saying it won't workout but both teams did something unexpected which is what off script means.

So your "Random draft ramblings alert" does fit here. I made a statement that most will agree with.

The thing is their picks weren't top 2 which were considered consensus pick. (Matthews, McDavid Dahlin, Hughes, Lafreniere, being consensus no 1 pick; Laine, EichelSvechnikov, Kakko considered as consensus no 2 pick)

Lafreniere is the consensus number 1, but I think it's a lot closer than a lot of people realize. Especially if 1st overall belongs to Detroit. Byfield is actually pretty close to Lafreniere's numbers, hes a center (we DESPERATELY need centers) and hes basically a year younger than Laf. If he was born 3 weeks later, hes 2021 1st overall playing another year in juniors, and who knows how much points he would rack up as an 18 year old. I think these world juniors are going to be huge, but as a Red Wings fan, I'm telling you I've heard this spoken by multiple people now, it's a lot closer than it seems.

Several teams would absolutely take QB over AL. He's almost a full year younger, has equal skill level and putting up just as impressive numbers in a tougher league, and plays a more important position.

I agree but Byram wasn't far behind them but Dach is working out well in Chicago. Since they have an older team a player that can step in and help them win right away is most likely the reason they took him. A lot of analysts had Seider around 17-25 and Detroit took him at 6. He looks good so far in the AHL after a slow start but its really his first taste of North American hockey.

Detroit does need center or 2 but if they get the first pick I think it has to be Lafreniere he has a chance to be special and I think his ceiling is quite a bit higher than Byfield. They don't have an elite player Larkin and Mantha might get to that level at some point but they aren't there yet.
