Not really.
Leafs say no easily to both.

Ok fair! If you don’t mind, what kind of return would you offer for guys like Tanev, Stetcher or Pearson?

Ceci is younger, plays a similar role as Tanev though during full seasons. Both are UFAs with a similar AAV. I know you may have heard a lot of nonsense from some fans, but in the real world, the Leafs wouldn't add a top prospect and a pick here. It's at best a one-for-one type of trade, and I don't see why the Leafs would do that trade even then. I like Ceci's contribution to the team's success so far.

As for the other trade, I don't see who would get out of our blue line to let Stecher in. I can't see Holl being moved out of the lineup at this point. Ceci's our no 1 pk guy. Dermott is doing really well. And we can't let Stecher in the AHL either. If one of our Ds is scratched, it would have to be for a major upgrade. It's the type of trade that could happen off season instead.

Not a ton. I'd give a 3rd and a low end prospect for tanev with ret.

I wouldn't touch Pearson

I actually like Stecher, but he hasn't proved anything to this point. I'd give a 2nd and a half decent prospect for him (think a grundstrom type)

Ok I can understand that! And Johnsson would be valued at quite a bit higher than Stetcher in your eyes?

Leafs might like Stecher somewhat, but Leafs don't want Pearson's cap hit any more that the Canucks do.
No one is giving that for Tanev. Actually right now Ceci for Tanner might be pretty even trade. Canucks probably need both Stecher and Tanev to try to make the playoffs.

Fair enough, I can understand your points! So in your eyes you don’t think the leafs have an issue on the right side of their defence?

Fair! And what would you be willing to give up for Stetcher?

Things could always be better, but so far the right side is doing well, especially since Keefe took over. The two main issues were Barrie being cold and letting everything in, and uncertainty about Holl.

As of now, though:
1. Barrie is again the player he used to be. He finally got into the team's chemistry, and we couldn't find a better bargain.
2. Holl has become a fan favourite, and he could turn out to be the inspiring type of story of the late bloomer taking his place in the NHL. He's doing well, both defensively and offensively, and keeps improving every game. If anything, he's the one who could still be replaced by someone with more experience, but that would be heartbreaking in a sense. I'd like to see him remain and for his story end well. I couldn't see him being replaced with Stecher, for instance.
3. Ceci has to cope with some fans' distorted views and disparaging comments, but I like his play a lot without the puck. In a nutshell, he rarely lets goals in when on the ice, and that's what I want. His pairing with Dermott hasn't allowed a goal at 5v5 for many games now. He may be overpriced at 4.5M given that he doesn't produce offensively, but other than that, he's hasn't done much wrong, and his game with the puck keeps improving under Keefe. If he leaves, the player stepping in has to be able to play the same role on the PK, and defensively.

To me, the real problem with the RHD will be next year, when all three players leave as UFA!

I may in the minority of Leaf fans but I certainly would trade Johnsson for Stetcher. (Leafs might have to add). I like Johnsson but the Leafs have good wingers to take his place. Stecher might only be a part time player right now for the Leafs, but injuries happen and he will be his minutes at some time. Next year the Leafs would need Stretcher.

Toronto would just use Liljegren rather than trade him for a guy like Stetcher or Tanev (or both). I wouldn't mind picking him up but I think that would be more of an off-season deal as right now Ceci would have to go back to make things work in terms of cap and number of RHD. That or Vancouver would have to retain 50% on both Stetcher and Pearson in that first trade haha.

Ceci is without a doubt the weak link on the blue line. He isn't very good with the puck and he's not very good without it often. Stecher or Tanev would be an upgrade over him.

That being said, moving Ceci only makes sense if you get a replacement for a fair price. Liljegren could possibly get a shot over him if they don't go elsewhere.
