Ottawa isn't giving up what may be their pick with the best odds of getting #1 for that..and no GM in their right mind is taking Jones. He's an ECHL caliber goalie making 5.75 for 4 more years.

I think realistically they’re gonna have their pick in the top 5 (if they sell at TDL which they will), San Jose will probably pick at 5-7 I’m guessing, they’re definitely going to be a power house next year with the picks

Just throwing a “non serious” trade/ dream of getting our pick back (which would never happen even if we offered anything)

It makes sense for them, San Jose could use those three prospects, in dire need. Juulsen would be a safe top 4 assumption, Ylonen is kinda hit or miss, assuming he’ll be like a safe middle six but hopefully top 6, and Poehling should and hopefully will be a 2C by his 2nd year really filling San Jose’s depth of talent

Meanwhile MTL gets another awesome pwf and if Meier can return to a 25-30 goal score it helps them a lot

Ottawa doesn't need more 2nd rd picks, they need high end talent.

If the SJ pick is a top 10 pick that will be much more valuable to the Sens than a bunch of picks in the next round. Plus, in a few years Ottawa is going to have an issue with contract management so they will most likely be looking to package a few of their picks into higher ones to manage bodies and timelines for entering the system.

Yep. Made a MTL version with this trade to see what it looked like.

it's not one bad year anymore. jones is below .900 SV% over his last 100 starts. dell is even worse. calling jones an ECHL goalie is an exaggeration, but jones is only an NHL starter because SJ doesn't have a better option available.

Maybe ECHL was a little harsh, but it's not just this year. His stats have been trending down for 5 years. Last year's stats are only marginally better than this years, only difference was SJ had the scoring depth and better-playing D to overcome his bad play.

It's closer than you think. Meier is 23 and put up 70 points last year. We really aren't taking much risk here....

The only way I could see Ottawa giving up SJ's first is if the Sharks took on Ryan's entire contract.
