Oh I'd love it, but that NMC is hard to get by. I want Gustafsson bad, he's gonna get paid this offseason

this trade makes it very hard for florida to sign all three of gudbranson, hoffman, dadonov. they do with up with a D logjam and it may be worth it for them to say yes and figure it out by dealing players like pysyk and letting guys like weegar walk, but the cap headache is enough of a deterrent that florida can't snap this up.

So where's the incentive for FLA to take the worst contract in the league?

Erik Gus + Retention + Taking back Matheson.

Gus hasn't been anything special, also acquiring Seabrook basically makes resigning him impossible. Matheson is still decent and only 25. CHI will have to add and a lot. Top prospect at the least. Otherwise this is just freaking terrible.

I mean, from the other responses, it doesn’t seem terrible.

Have there been any other responses but CHI fans or people stating the obvious?

This sucks. It's like CGY giving up Lucic and Brodie in exchange to Määttä.

You can look for yourself, but I haven’t seen any accounts on here that scream Chicago fan.

Have you seen Carey Price’s contract?

Matheson has 6.5 years left on his contract.

I also want to point out that we are retaining on Seabrook, at 5mil AAV is he really the worst?

Matheson's decent. Also Lucic has 3,5 years. I took a shorter contract compared to Seabrook on purpose.

Also Seabrook's cap hit is $5M, not $4M after retention.
TheChief liked this.

Price is still useful. Same can't be said about Seabrook.

Wow you caught me on that one, I changed it like 3 seconds after I did the math in my head lol. Anyways, You could always switch Matheson with
Anton Strälman and get a similar result.

Wouldn't change the biggest problem, namely that including Seabrook makes it near impossible to re-sign the UFA asset FLA is receiving.

At the very least this move needs a prospect to be moved, and a conditional pick regarding whether the UFA asset gets re-signed or not.

Otherwise it makes literally no sense for the other team to make such a favor for CHI...

To me the most difficult part to see happening in this entire trade is Q actually trading for and playing Gus. Talk about irony. Holy cow. Gus might have actually been the reason (straw that broke the camels back) that Q was fired. Q NEVER liked playing young Dmen and the moment Q was fired...WHAM Gus got more playing time and #1 PP. Gus scores 60 points.

All the other stuff...I actually do think Q would value Seabrook more than people think on here. I also think Q isn't a big fan of Matheson. Not saying Q hates him, but Matheson gives up the puck a lot and that'll put you in the doghouse real quick. It's hard to get out of there, but fighting and defending your teammates is a way to do it. I don't see the trade happening, but i could see Florida doing it.
