It’s become very clear that the leafs don’t need him to provide offense

Moore and Mickey can do exactly the same job for less and still not compromise speed. Engvall and Korkoshov can provide a similar style but with a bigger frame and again, for much less.

I would sell now on Johnsson while his value is still good. Most likely to a would be cup contending team, or even someone in the middle to late stages of a rebuild as he is still not too.old and has a good contract. I would keep Kappy over him.

the thing is, everyone else knows this and knows that he and his replacement are products of their environment and not some great skilled player. They are really just average guys middle 6 guys who don't really drive play. And hence you aren't going to get anything great out of them let alone find people willing to take on that 3.4 million for the next 3 years.

I actually disagree with this pharrow. Johnsson is a intense player with good offense and instincts and speed. Trying to find the highlights of the goals he scored this year. A couple of them were really impressive. For a player that you could pencil in for 20 + goals a year, is only 25 and is signed to a reasonable 4 year contract is valuable.

I could see a team that is in a dogfight for the playoffs and needing offense of help would jump at the chance to add a player like Johnsson. Where Edmonton played so well without Larsson in the lineup as well as needing scoring help on the wings, they would be an ideal trade partner.

Or reality will kick in and Johnsson is a speedy skilled winger capable of scoring 20+ goals and 40+ points with upside. That isn't without value but hey, it's the Leafs so they can't ever get a someone who is worth anything.

Larsson really isn't good. All his underlying numbers are underwhelming, he has no offence and he isn't very good at handling the puck. He's a more physical Cody Ceci who is better defensively but can't defend against top opposition.

Correction; Johnsson is on pace for 16.4 goals this year; assuming he were to play 82 games which isn't happening so actually on pace for worse then 16.4 goals.

I mean Scott mayfield isn’t exactly Bobby Orr either. Dubas will not have a problem trading johnsson for a defenseman of comparable value on a team in need of offense

you just described conner sheary. But you don't realize it. Yeah he got 20 goals or so on crosby's wing. Much like Johnsson does with Matthews and JT, is you....oh I'm sure some team could use him.....
Really, he doesn't drive play. He's a product. I'm not saying he couldn't be a piece somewhere. But I don't see anyone rushing out to bring him in either.
