Anyone figured why hes so "good" all at the sudden ? Red Bull ? Pair him with Rielly, lets see how good and usefull he will be....

I think hes always been good he just never got a shot with Babcock. I think hes playing a lot better then he would anywhere else because of Keefes system (it's perfect for guys like him) but I also think playing with muzzin helps a lot. Muzz made zaitsev look good

Is he doing good? I noticed quite a few really bad defensive errors in the 8-6 win over Carolina, 2 of which directly led to goals against.

Justin Holl is a perfect bottom pairing RHD. If the Leafs can get a multi year deal done in the 1.75 to 2.25 million dollar range it would go a long way to solidifying that side of the D Core. He can play on the 2nd pair in a pinch but long term, I think it would be better served to have him on the bottom pair.

Rielly / ???
Dermott / ???
Sandin / Holl

I expect that both Muzzin and Barrie will be out of the mix next year for financial reasons and Liljegren, although showing promise, is still unproven at the NHL level.

The Leafs need to focus on a legitimate top pairing RHD to play with Rielly in the summer. They do not have one in the organization at present who is not a UFA at seasons end.

I thought when I saw him last year in training camp, I never understood why he didn't get a chance. I know Babs loved Marincin for some reason but it just didn't make sense that he couldn't get a chance to play. Whenever he played though he always did a lot of little things that just don't really get noticed. Just smart little plays with the puck, little shoulder fakes that would open up a passing lane. Stuff like that. I think he'll sign a 1 or 2 year deal below 2 million a season and then hope to get a bigger deal after that if he can replicate what he does this year.

Did you notice, Slavin, Hamilton and Pesce getting owned by Marner as well? That whole game was lose defensively on both sides. I remember a little while back when TO came into Edmonton and Holl was tasked with playing against Draisaitl and McDavid. How did that game turnout?

I think Liljegren is ready. Sandin looked ready this year and Liljegren is better defensively than Sandin, although Sandin's poise is next level. I am not worried about either, sure there will be growing pains but Liljegren is a much different player than most seem to think he is. The number of fans on here who still think he's a smaller offensive wizard is astonishing. He's developing into a really good 2 way defenceman who's really good defensively. He also has a physical side that is really nice to see.

He's been terrific this season, last game he really struggled though

Getting beaten by a good play isn't the same as flubbing a clearing attempt leading directly to grade A chances against though.

Thanks, good info. I don't watch the Leafs much which is why I asked the question: I did see some pretty poor puck handling and decisions from him yesterday.

No one is perfect, but Holl has been terrific this year. He's turned his entire career around this season.

He has not played a game yet. Until he does, he is just a good prospect. I have seen several Marlies games live this year and he looks good. The NHL is a different kind of good. I hope he makes the transition smoothly. He is not a top four guy next year though. Not even close.

I don't think you can really say that with certainty, although I will agree that I'd prefer him playing on the bottom pair at least to start but I think he could be the perfect partner for Rielly eventually. His skating is next level, he's not small and has a physical edge to him. He doesn't have to be a 40 point defender but a responsible 30 point guy who is just solid in his own end is what I see from Liljegren. Eventually anyways.
