Career Ending Injuries Seabs Shaw De Haan

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 26, 2019
Published: Dec. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would not surprised is De Haan is done at 29 years old (May) given that he is having his 5th shoulder surgery.

Shaw has already said last season when out with a concussion that his body can't take another bad one that he wants to be able to be a father more then hockey. This concussion is apparently a very bad one.

Seabs is having hip and shoulder surgery at the age of 35 (april), coupled with his play it isn't a stretch to see him hang up the skates.

This would create holes but free up a ton of cap space next season. Should be interesting if all 3 retire.

I'm curious if MTL would be interested in taking Smith. If theres 1 thing he can do...its play PK. Their PK is terrible. I'd keep debrincat amand Strome together. Dach plays a cycle game like Saad too. They should be good together.

Dach and Saad are too similar to play together IMO. Saad needs a shooter and Kubalik is a good pairing as such or if not Cat which worked before. I'm a big fan of balance. Ideally, you want a two way power forward, a shooter and a dynamic playmaker on each line of the top 9 which is what I tried to do here.

It sucks about De Haan. He was really good for us, the exact guy they needed. And now he’s done, at least for the year

It’s almost like Stan bowman didn’t actually consider these injuries and injury histories when he traded for Shaw and de haan.........

The Shaw trade was rough considering what we gave up, no doubt about it. But the de haan trade is a serious head scratcher. It was a trade that honestly was too good to be true. I honestly gotta wonder, did the hurricanes totally fleece bowman? Did they school bowman into a cap dump? I know we didn’t give up much, but at least forsling is healthy. No one could know this would happen again, but the writing was definitely on the wall with his bad shoulder.

OH GOD........are we the new Coyotes?! Taking bad contracts on players with no more future?! NOOOOOO, it’s worse! We don’t even get 1st round picks for them!!!!!!

No no no......real it in Hatter, real it in.......

It would be sad to see though would help the franchise immensely with those retirements. Give us a good chance to start fresh and bring in pieces immediately that could make us competitive.

Hoffman - Toews - Kane would be a dangerous line

The PK might be bad, but nothing to due against the forward. Danault-Lehkonen are great, Thompson-Armia good and recently Poehling-Suzuki are the 3rd unit ?

I just thought of a big problem with this scenario. Consider, for a second that seabs, de haan, and Shaw all retire. Yes it would open holes for players to fill. However, does this site have a retirement calculator? Cuz I gotta say, if they retire, that’s a lot of many stuck on the books.

Sure, we get some partial relief from the cap hits, but not completely. Call me a sucker, call me a optimist, but the only way this would be perfect for us and not just partially helpful is if all three players were to actually accept a contract termination after passing unconditional waivers. Obviously this would be ridiculous for them because it would cause them to forfeit their guaranteed money, but hey, I can be hopeful right?

Yeah I think there was good balance across the lines but that line should score bulk!
