Trades for WPG PIT EDM NYI 1sts

Created by: PLDGEY
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 20, 2019
Published: Dec. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ive tried to take off my homer glasses and make these attractive to both sides. I know that most teams dont want to part with their 1sts, but I was trying to think of what would pry them away. If you disagree with my explanation, what tweaks would you suggest?

EDM: Pageau is worth a first+prospect. Most ACGMs have him going for such.
You send a 3rd back and take Sam Gagne for cap reasons. PoolParty has stated he will never play for the Oilers.

WPG: WPG needs experienced D and responsible depth forwards. Tierney gives them the flexibility to load the top line Laine Scheifele Wheeler - Connor Tierney Ehlers - Roslovic Little Perrault - Copp Lowry Appleton. We take back a first in the late 20s and a B+ RW Prospect. We throw in the late 2nd next year to grease the wheels. Tierney is RFA, so he wont just leave like Hayes or Stastny

PIT: Bjugstadt is not producing at all. JJ is a dead lug of a contract. Both are expensive and have 1+ years left. PIT sits in 7th, so late 1st round pick. They get an expiring Vet in Gagne. They get a speedy cheap depth winger in Ennis. They get a ton of cap relief.

NYI: I know Ladd has the NMC. I still want to put the trade up. He is playing in the AHL right now. NYI likes this trade because it gets them some value for Ho-Sang. It also gets them out of Ladds 5.5x4. They get a 2 wingers. 1 that has actual value. Should be able to play in their system mid-6. 1 is a veteran, has value if NYI gets injuries in the playoffs, expires after this year.

NYI also get Chlapik and 5th to grease the wheels. We have a ton of C depth prospects. Chlapik doesnt have a future with the Sens but he could be great for NYI whose prospect pool is most shallow at C.

This is exact spot I was aiming for. "Not happy about giving up the 1st but I wouldnt be mad to see this trade"

Jets decline. Tierney isn’t much of an upgrade over roslovic of little of any. While hainsey doesn’t really help our back end. We are better off getting a guy like zadorov, edmundson, or Dillon. So essentially we are losing a first for a bunch of peices we don’t need (or want really)

that's an easy no for the penguins.
You are high if you think it costs a 1st to move JJ.

This is the kind of crap that was posted on moving gudbranson. They got a draft pick back for him. And JJ has played better than Gudbranson this year as he's on his natural side.
Jugs could be traded for a return of at least a 3rd.

Wait JJ worth a 3rd ? ANA needed a RHD and Gudbranson got less terms than JJ

I don't see Holland giving up a 1st or Puljujarvi for a rental 3rd liner.

Roslovic isn't playing center though and who knows what's going to happen with Little.
Tierney is a huge upgrade on Lowry which is what the Jets need, wouldn't want to send a 2020 1st though, would rather send a 2021 1st. I agree about Hainsey, I don't think he's needed by the Jets, their patchwork defense is better then it's being given credit for.

I think that the WPG defense is looking better than it is because of the goaltending that WPG has been getting. Hainsey is the exact kind of depth experienced D that teams pick up at the deadline.

It being a 2021 1st would a fine change.

You get out of >7M each over the next 2 seasons and 3.25 over the 3rd and 4th after that.

You get 2 upgrades over your present roster for a cup push during your closing window that you have no obligation to re-sign in the offseason.

Trading picks for rentals and long term cap relief during a cup window is exactly what teams do.

To make the others happy, the pens need more defensive depth, especially if johnsons gone. Particularly the left side. We have depth at forward now. Our forward prospects have emerged with all the injuries.

When 100% healthy before this trade...
Galchenyuk-Crosby-Simon
Guentzel-Malkin-Rust
Kahun-McCann-Hornqvist
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Lafferty
Bjugstad

Gagne is a lateral move to Bjugstad at best and Ennis is only maybe an upgrade over Bjugstad so we are paying a 1st and 2nd for what would be our 13th and 14th best forwards at best? No thanks. JJ has been playing ok this year. And once fully healthy will go back to playing sheltered 3rd pair minutes so he will be solid for the pens. I’ll say it an again...if the pens had ANY interest in paying to get out of either of Bjugstad or JJ’s contracts, they’d have done it by now.

Gagner is an upgrade to McCann or Blueger. He can also play PP2 and PK. Ennis is better than Kahun/ZAR/Tanev.

You'd be losing a 1st in the 24-31 range. For the cap dump and the 3rd line upgrade its not a major price.

Many of the "emergences" are overperformances and will regress. Rust is shooting 19%. He didnt suddenly become a point per game guy.

Defense is doable though. What if we swapped the pick Lajoie?

You’re high to think Gagne is an upgrade over Blueger, let alone McCann. And you’re even higher to think Ennis is better than Kahun or Tanev. He is maybe a lateral move to ZAR, but I’ll keep ZAR over Ennis cause Ennis won’t be the same player on a fourth line than he is in the middle 6. And losing a 1st in one of the deepest drafts the nhl is gonna have in a while. Plus a second in the following year. Plus neither jugs or JJ are cap dumps as JJ is playing ok and the pens aren’t in a rush to trade either. Like I have said. If the pens were going to pay to dump them, they’d have done it already. They aren’t going to pay to dump either. GMJR has said he isn’t giving up a 1st for a rental. He’d have gotten Hall if that were the case. GMJR knows the pens have to build up the farm now that the core is getting old and more injury prone.

Rust is a great two way player, he scored some key game winning goals in the pens cup runs and plays well in the playoffs. He's usually limited to the bottom six but produces well when he's with crosby or malkin.

Its just a Huge NO from Pens
Bjugstad has been good at 3C, he just hasnt put up points when healthy
Johnson has been ok this yr
Gagner and Ennis wouldn't even make the roster
and if we give up those picks we would do it for something that helps now

** Thats why I said it makes no sense
