Description
this is for people who actually watch leafs games and appreciate what someone like freddie brings to the leafs team, what im wondering is could goat move up to 3c in a shutdown role with very skilled puck moving wingers playing with him his point total will automatically rise due to increased ice time, i look around the league at other 3rd line centres like lowry etc. who plays that type of game, freddie is one off the best face off players in the league and with his face off win percentage 58.8 places him 4th in the league in wins percentage which vital for a player to make sure his team keep in puck possession, he plays on average 10.08 mins a game which very low and if could learn use his size to his advantage and tat also work in his favour, he would probably be signed to team friendly deals most of his career, i understand alot of people judge him due to being a 1st round draft pick but that draft year wasnt a very good one with fewer better prospects in later round, what im asking is can he play that defensive shutdown roll at 3c with his line? please comment what you think

Well considering the fact that the average goat lives to be only about 12 years, Freddie is a very good goat

Freddie could probably give that a go. I think he is a perfect 4th line C. Gives the coach a lot of confidence back there.

Gauthier is actually a very effective player in his 4th line role. However, he needs to use his body a little more to his advantage and throw out more hits as Leafs need a little more sandpaper on the team. Do not feel he is a good 3rd line fit with more skilled wingers because he has limited offensive skills which would negatively impact his wingers on a 3rd line. He needs to stay on 4th line, take defensive zone faceoffs and kill penalities and be happy in his role on the team.

I just don't making Kerfoot a winger...Leafs have plenty of good wingers. Keep Kerfoot, Spezza and Gauthier as the the so called third, fourth/fifth centres.

I've watched a majority of the Leaf games this year and can honestly say, GOAT is at his best playing 8-11 mins a game on the fourth line. Great PKer and solid cycle game. Perfect 4th liner. He just doesn't have the offensive capability you would need to be a fixture on the 3rd line. Would be fine in spot check duty there, but I'm not convinced he's built for the 3rd line on a permanent basis.

I can't say I've watched enough of Gauthier to say if he's capable of being a 3C or not but as a Jets fan I can say that without a doubt that Adam Lowry IS NOT a 3rd line center or 3rd line player, period. He just doesn't have the offensive ability for the ice time a 3rd line gets and any team that goes with a player of his extremely limited offensive ability at 3C will struggle to find secondary scoring and good luck finding a good team that doesn't get steady, consistent secondary scoring.
As I said I don't know enough about Gauthier to say if he could be a 3C but I do know I'd way rather have Kerfoot as a 3C then Lowry, I think the 3rd and 4th lines are the least of the Leafs problems.
