Sharks Change

Created by: PapaJoe19
Team: 2019-20 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 22, 2019
Published: Dec. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A creative way to retool and restock the Sharks for a more and exciting future. Out are Burns, Meier, Labanc, Dillon, Sorensen, M. Karlsson, Gambrell.

Kreider gets a test drive as a Meier replacement and he gets to try out the Bay Area prior to FA, like E. Kane did. Vatanen returns to the Pacific and has a trial period in the top 4. A new youth movement of Kapanen, Sorokin, Georgiev, Dellandrea, Andersson, Ho-Sang, and Honka are brought in to revitalize the franchise.

Swapping some picks and alleviating some cap pressure for other teams by taking salary dumps in Polak, and Cogliano, allows the Sharks to be shrewd in these deals. These moves also allow the Sharks to head into the offseason with a lot of cap flexibility to improve the depth and balance of the on ice product.

With these deals and by relegating Jones to the minors, where he belongs, the Sharks would head into the summer with over $27m in cap space to resign Kreider, Vatanen, Simek, any other UFA they want to keep as well as all of their new RFAs. The future would be much brighter in this scenario.

Toronto have no need of Dillon or Karlsson (either one). Their primary needs are a young top-2 RhD and a backup goalie.

The Stars wouldn’t do that trade. The value is fair, but given the current age of the Stars, they’re going to be rebuilding sooner rather than later.

They aren’t going to trade their top prospect & a 1st round pick for a 34-year old that still has $48M left on his contract over the next 6 years. With Dallas having Hintz, Heiskanen, Gurianov, and Klingberg all up for significant contract extensions within the next 3 years, taking on yet another aging player with a large contract is really going to hamstring who they can afford to re-sign.

Like I said, the value is pretty accurate, but I can’t see Dallas making this move; not with 6-years left on Burns’ contract. Once the Stars move on from Radulov & Pavelski, they may be able to do something
