I'm not happy. We needed Cole...we didn't even get close and Shapiro didn't have the balls to tell the truth.
What do you mean?... The jays made a $300 million offer to Cole and as much as I wanted him he got 9 years and $324 from the Yankees which would have translated to roughly 10-12 years and $400mill to get him here. You don't think the Yankees will regret that contract after 5-6 years?... I do. Ryu is solid he lead the NL in ERA last year and doesn't have overpowering stuff so he should age better than a pitcher like Cole.
You said before that we needed 3-4 pitchers and we got Ryu (not my first choice by any means but he was the best available pitcher left and better than next year's options). Regardless he's a TOR arm and should be decent for us and if not it was a risk we needed to make and could afford to make.
Also, Shaw was an astute pick up who is controlled until 2022 if he bounces back. Yamaguchi could be a steal and has closer experience while being able to pitch in the rotation or as a swingman or just clean up. Roark gives our rotation stability. Anderson is a low risk eat who can eat up innings and I don't think there done yet. Speaking of which we're linked to Price which could be a good pickup if he comes with Bennatendi and groom plus cash let's say like $36mill then all of a sudden our rotation looks like
Ryu
Shoemaker/Roark until Pearson is ready to steal that spot
Price
The other of Shoe or Roark
Anderson
Yamaguchi/ Boruki/ Thornton/Kay/ SRF/ Pannone/ I'm probably forgetting a few options.... Point is we have a much improved rotation compared to last year and yes, I know that's a six man rotation something I've wanted to see for a few years now and the spill over helps round out the BP (although, we still need a BP arm or two).
You at least have to admit this is the best off-season we've had from this FO so far. We also need another bat, you got any ideas other than Castellanos? To bad EE decided to walk the parrot on the south side instead of up here tho?
