The Talbot signing is decent. Not a fan of Gudas and feels like a slight overpay for him. Signing Holl to that deal is a good idea. He is showing that he can play and have a bigger role with the team going forward.

The only unfortunate thing is the Mikheyev deal. That injury hurts now and later if he plays well next season. The ideal scenario would have been to have him signed to a 2-3 year deal oh well.

Gudas is the perfect 3rd pair add to this team.
I wanna to keep the term at 3 years so that is my reason at 3.5 million AAV.

The Mikheyev injury is what prompted me to making this.
If he doesnt get injured, I feel he would get the Sam Bennett contract which is 3 years @ 2.55 million AAV.

Actually with all those kids panning out as decent 3rd & 4th Liners ( or even the grinding LWs on 1st and 2nd Line, so Engvall, Timashov, Moore ) and as gravesome as the injury was it can actually play into TML benefit with re-signing Mikheyev, so instead 2 x 2,75M they can squeez him into 3 x 2M.....

As for OP not sure if Gudas and Dermott + Holl are the cadre that will bring TML past 1st Round Playoffs.....

Any ideas for a number #1 D who makes 4 million?
UFA or otherwise.

Proly you read my takes in some other threads about it, but as i see it right now, Dubarelli amassed a good trading capital in Barrie, Kerfoot and even Ceci. If you Pack those with Timashov, Hyman ( will be 4M+ after his "rental" Season ) and both 2021 and 2022 2nds or even Dermott and Holl, i think names like Hamonic and Murphy could be fished out on top of Rielly and...yes, Muzzin. So $$ wise :

5.000.000 - 5.200.000
5.300.000 - 3,870.000
Sandin - Liljegren

Would kill for Ellis and Spurgeon ( even Manson ) tho, but those 4M went to Matthews and Marner....tho Spurgeons contract is bit to long for my likings....

Like Gudas as an option, but the contract values are off, in my humble opinion.

Dermott plays 14 minutes per game, with no PP or PK duties. He wouldn't get 3M for a bridge RFA contract. 1.5M maybe, though with the "Dubas bonus", your post may be realistic. In all seriousness, though, we can't afford to overpay in the current situation. Also, Sandin will almost surely jump ahead next year and take that no 2 spot.

Mikheyev, on the other hand, play(ed) a lot, with PK duties. He has comparables in the 3-3.5M range on the team. In short, switch the values of these two contracts. Wish him well (I like the player a lot), but you're right to say his injury may actually decrease his next contract by missing the entire year.

I'd say Engvalll will get a higher contract (close to 1M) than Gauthier (probably a Moore-type 2x 0.75).

What you think?

I like it, b...u...t, I would probably target DeMelo over Gudas because I think we can get more bang for our buck which would allow us to invest a little more into another d-man or give us more wiggle room for our RFA contracts. That being said, I would be happy if this is how our off-season went, although, I don't want Aberg back lol.

Nothing, I'm just not a fan which is funny because I liked as an option for the 4th line in the off-season and you didn't lol. I just see him as more of a one year option and I would rather see a younger player get a chance/more playing time. Just my opinion.

What do you and @oneX think of the BJ's off-season so far?

I'm not happy. We needed Cole...we didn't even get close and Shapiro didn't have the balls to tell the truth.

I'm disappointed with Jays offseason.
I didnt want Ryu to be the ace, 2nd guy.

You think they are done?

What do you mean?... The jays made a $300 million offer to Cole and as much as I wanted him he got 9 years and $324 from the Yankees which would have translated to roughly 10-12 years and $400mill to get him here. You don't think the Yankees will regret that contract after 5-6 years?... I do. Ryu is solid he lead the NL in ERA last year and doesn't have overpowering stuff so he should age better than a pitcher like Cole.

You said before that we needed 3-4 pitchers and we got Ryu (not my first choice by any means but he was the best available pitcher left and better than next year's options). Regardless he's a TOR arm and should be decent for us and if not it was a risk we needed to make and could afford to make.

Also, Shaw was an astute pick up who is controlled until 2022 if he bounces back. Yamaguchi could be a steal and has closer experience while being able to pitch in the rotation or as a swingman or just clean up. Roark gives our rotation stability. Anderson is a low risk eat who can eat up innings and I don't think there done yet. Speaking of which we're linked to Price which could be a good pickup if he comes with Bennatendi and groom plus cash let's say like $36mill then all of a sudden our rotation looks like

Ryu
Shoemaker/Roark until Pearson is ready to steal that spot
Price
The other of Shoe or Roark
Anderson
Yamaguchi/ Boruki/ Thornton/Kay/ SRF/ Pannone/ I'm probably forgetting a few options.... Point is we have a much improved rotation compared to last year and yes, I know that's a six man rotation something I've wanted to see for a few years now and the spill over helps round out the BP (although, we still need a BP arm or two).

You at least have to admit this is the best off-season we've had from this FO so far. We also need another bat, you got any ideas other than Castellanos? To bad EE decided to walk the parrot on the south side instead of up here tho?

Why? I wanted Cole too but not at the price it would have cost us. Ryu is still better than next year's options. No, I don't think they're done yet at least one more big move likely a trade or Castellanos. I also think we sign Odorizzi next off-season and after hearing we offered $300mill to Cole I have hope we can take a run at Betts next year maybe something like 10 years $400mill! What do you think? Also, you have to admit this has been the best off-season under our current regime. At least better than what we all thought would happen.

The cost of winning is high. Ask the Raptors how they feel about giving up a that has only shown loyalty until he got traded.

I'm not saying getting top players in the majors was ever going to be pretty....but that's what winning in a Canadian market is while the rest of the league operates in the US, pays in US dollars, makes money in US dollars.

Jays are the only baseball team to make money in Canadian dollars but have pay players in US dollars. It's going to be ugly if the goal is to win.

David Price with bean-town. I know he's not the best option but if he comes with Benintendi and Groom plus cash let's say $36 mill I'd jump all over that. Benintendi solidifies our CF. I am concerned about how his defence would translate in center but he's better than the other available options and comes with 3 years of control (projected $4.9 through arb).

To me, it's worth a shot and I'm not concerned with Boston freeing up money to extend Mookie because I don't think he wants to be there long-term.... I mean would you want to play in front of a much of racist @$$ holes?... I wouldn't I'd be climbing into the stands with a bat if I heard fans making racist remarks.

And Groom is a solid lefty who can throw over 100mph but he did have TJ surgery a year or two ago nonetheless he's a solid prospect to add to our farm and we wouldn't have to send much something like Teo, Drury, and a throw-in pitching prospect in a or a+.

But who?.... Cole was the cream of the crop then it was Strasburg who I wouldn't touch with 100-foot pole and Ryu was the 3rd best option. I have no idea why so many Jays fans wanted Keuchel (not saying you did). He made no sense for us he's a soft-tossing extreme ground ball pitcher that induces weak contact and we have a young volatile infield so I'm guessing his ERA would have inflated into the 500s. Plus, his contract makes Ryu's look all the much better. There's not much left out there at least not quality anyways.

Plus both Cole and Stras came with QO's attached to them so we would have had to surrender the 45th OA pick in the upcoming draft. And to top it off Ryu is a southpaw.
