After Dallas Gets Knocked Out In The First Round

Created by: TheMooterus
Team: 2020-21 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 28, 2019
Published: Dec. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dallas fails to make it past the 1st Round in 2019-2020. After a disappointing decade, with them needing to find a new coach (Bowness isn't the long-term solution), and with them being an older team, this would be the perfect chance for Dallas to undergo a rebuild/retool. It would give the new coach the chance to build the team in a manner that would fit his system.

These two trades are a combination of moving away pieces of value & trading for bad contracts in order to acquire other assets.

Philly & Montreal fans -- How close is this value wise?

DAL
  1. Andreoff, Andy
  2. Farabee, Joel
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
**2021 2ND ROUND PICK CONDITION**

If Radulov scores 20 goals OR the Flyers make the Eastern Conference Final, the pick becomes a 2021 1st Round Pick

Dallas gets a young winger that can continue to develop into a potential top-6 option, along with a 1st/2nd round pick to help with their rebuild
PHI
  1. Radulov, Alexander ($2,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Flyers get a winger that could give their offense a little bit of an extra boost. They're a wild card team, as it sits right now. Radulov could give them a bit of a boost in their top-6. Dallas retains a good chunk of his contract, as well as taking the $750K contract of Andy Andreoff, to make the cap more manageable for the Flyers.

Along with the boost in offense, Radulov would also be a great resource for guys like Vorobyov, Proverov, and Rubtsov.

Adding Radulov could give Philly one of the best top-9's in the NHL, and if his age catches up to him, then Philly gets to retain their 2021 1st Round Pick.
2.
DAL
  1. Alzner, Karl
  2. Olofsson, Jacob [Reserve List]
  3. 2021 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Dallas gets Montreal's 2021 1st Round Pick in return for taking on the entirety of Karl Alzner's remaining contract ($9.25M over 2 years).

The other portion of the trade lands Dallas Jacob Olofsson, Montreal's 2nd Round Pick from the 2018 draft. The big Swedish Center is currently playing over in Sweden, and has a little more time to develop, due to the Stars rebuilding.
MTL
  1. Bayreuther, Gavin [RFA Rights]
  2. Faksa, Radek [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Faksa & Bayreuther give Montreal two players that can help their team right now, and in the immediate future, as opposed to them having to wait for Olofsson to be ready to make the jump from Sweden to the NHL.

Faksa is the perfect center to throw on the 3rd pair. He provides offense when needed, but he will become Montreal's top defensive center. He's great in his own end, and in the neutral zone as well. He's also a guy that will eat up some top unit minutes on the PK. Faksa makes Montreal a significantly better defensive team, from the front end.

Bayreuther is an NHL ready defenseman that has simply been stuck behind unmovable NHL contracts. He is consistently the best defenseman for the Texas Stars, and is a very strong two-way player. He's a strong puck mover, and can provide stability to the Canadiens bottom-4.

@ExpiredmilkYT I haven't been able to watch Farabee much this year. Has he become an untouchable? Or is something like this in the potential ballpark. Probably overdid it with the pick, but what are your thoughts here?

Bergevin has said time and time again, he isn't going to sacrifice the future to win now.

As someone who isn't in Montreal, or paying attention to Montreal media, this is not information that I was aware of. Taking Bergevin's comments out of the equation, how close is the value here?

The not mortgaging future comment seems kind of contradicting to him trying to sign Aho to an offersheet few months ago

Aho's 22.

Still the statement contradicts not mortgaging the future for now, Aho is now.. 2020 picks are 4-5 years away in most cases

I wouldn't mind the deal too much if we felt we could take the next step.

That's kind of why I went with Philly for the trade. Y'all seem to be teetering right on the edge of legitimate playoff contender & perennial wild card. Thought maybe y'all could squeeze the last couple years of production out of Radulov, and it would be able to tip the scales in your favor a little bit

I know Faksa had a big season last season, but he hasn't been very good this year. Seems like somehow even though Faksa is having a bad season, Montreal is buying high.

He's down offensively, but he's still logging a ton of minutes in his own end and on the PK. I wouldn't look too much at his offensive drop off. The system that Montgomery & Bowness have run this year have been production killers when it comes to offense. All of the Stars have seen an offensive production drop, across the board. Moving him to a less rigid system, and you'll see an uptick in his offensive production in addition to his defensive play.

Ya I'm a big fan of Radulov. Would be a really nice add.
