Young guns? McNabb.Prout and Gravel on the team....No thanks. So Timashov and Engvall take a cut in pay. Galchenyuk? Really?

McNabb and Prout are there for toughness and physicality. Something the Leafs desperately need if they want to become something other than a Regular Season Team. I'm sure there are other, younger players out there that fit the bill, but would require more to obtain. Gravel is simply an inexpensive 7th D who is stay at home. Not flashy, but you know what to expect with him.

Timashov actually goes up by about 100k and Engvall comes down about 70k. Reason being, there will only be a small sample to base a contract on. Hence the 1 year show me what you can do deal. Though looking at the amount of cap left over, he could be signed for 925-950k.

As for Galchenyuk, I figured he is having a down year so his asking price can't be high. He is more offensively gifted than Johnsson and at 4M only slightly more expensive. Age wise is about the same. Overall, seems like a better option to go with.

If not, scrap that idea and take the money to sign Muzzin. He's not afraid to hit and has a bomb of a slapper that doesn't get utilized nearly enough. Plus he is a good leader off and on the ice despite not having a letter. I wouldn't mind bringing him back.

So Engval can and I believe Timashov can be UFA cause he don't offer them appropriate salaries.
Prout can't make the Flames. There's toughness but you need NHL players to be NHL competent.
