Making Saad fit

Created by: Dan10900
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 30, 2019
Published: Dec. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He's been one of my favorite players for a long time, still relatively young, is playing spectacular this year, one of CHI's two or three best forwards this year (and it's not like he's been bad previously) but due to age, he seems to be generally underappreciated, and might be able to be had for more of a bargain, I feel like he'd also be a spectacular winger for Malkin

Also imo every contract is fair and you're not changing my mind (except Demelo might be a bit low, he's been great this year, but you could probably tweak some of the other contracts or get the Hawks to retain a bit, only one year, to free up a few hundred K)

  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. Poulin, Samuel
  3. 2020 5th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
I've seen trades that send a first and Galch, so I sent jugs (roughly=Galch imo) and a fifth bc 2020>>>>x1000 2019, and Poulin was a terrible pick imo, but he is a year farther into his development, and I feel like CHI, even if they move Saad will likely want to compete somewhat soon, also could be replaced by POJ and a higher pick or a different spec

  3. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
  4. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)

Probably, I would give him up 101 times out of 100 before a 2020 first tho

Just coming in to show my appreciation that you ended up with $69 in cap space left.

By the way, saying Poulin is a "terrible pick" is not really a way to entice Stan Bowman...

Not trying to entice him, I'm not the GM ?? just trying to be neutral and stating my opinion, if I was GM and he didn't scout him I'd say he was in my top five ??

He just doesn't really impressed me, he's sluggish, like a worse Maata skating wise, seems like his ceiling is a Patric Hornqvist lite, he can use his size to almost bully kids in juniors, but 99% won't be able to do that in the pros

I’d say confidently that Stan probably doesn’t read this website... however based upon his recent moves... ?

interesting take.. none of his draft reports really stated he was sluggish or a poor skater, mostly good first step and good work ethic??

Patric Hornqvist comparison is also nothing to snuff at, 8 straight (full) seasons with 20 goals from '09/'10 - '17/'18

He's still the guy who stuck Edmonton with Manning and got Caggiula for Chiarelli's stupidity, so Stan deserved some credit before the ****ing Nylander swap... For that, he can get drive into the lake.

So many great moves like turning Cam Barker into Nick Leddy, Oduya trade (first one), Hartman for Beaudin and Kurashev... but then the **** like trading Teraveinan, Panarin, and Jokiharju. I just can’t.

Why are people so infatuated with the Pens getting Saad?

Rust + Tanev are both players who play EXACTLY like him..

Bc he's better than both of them, not really a similar player to Tanev, Tanev is just pure speed and work ethic and yes Rust is playing spectacular this year, but Saad isn't doing much worse, and was consistently better over the rest of their careers, plus he's from Pittsburgh, and I made this just bc he's one of my favorite players in the league, and has been for years

Rust is playing far superior than Saad is and Tanev is about equal I'd say. Definitely doesn't warrant giving up 5 more years of Tanev and paying Saad 2.5M more annually (especially with our RFAs)

I like Saad, just think Tanev and ESPECIALLY Rust are a better fit for this team.
I'd bring Saad in if he was 2-2.5M cheaper and had more term though for sure

Saad is so much better than Tanev, Tanev is a bottom 6 energy guy, he's really good at what he does, but he's not a top 6 forward, Saad is a legit top 6 forward, nearly as good defenseively as ZAR/Kahun/Simon, and can score like a legit top 6 forward

Ik, Saad is so good, I hope we can get him, he'd be a great underrated/undervalued pickup

Ya he just hasn't really had much puck luck this year imo. Would be a really good top 6 add to this team.
