He and Muzzin have been our best and most consistent D (thought Muzzin has tailed off lately). Im a bit weary of the term but this contract can be moved easily, I like it.

Even if he settles in as a 3rd pair guy who can move up in the lineup, 2 million is a great price tag.

"Leafs fans, what are your thoughts on Holl as a player and the extension? I see him as a bottom 4 guy." Your statement is confusing. If he is bottom 4 guy, that also makes him a top 4 guy.
This silly numbering system doesn't really exist. You play 15 minutes a night minimum you better be NHL competent. Plus Holl does PK time. Seems like so many on this site if they see a Dman that doesn't put up offensive numbers (mostly because they aren't on the PP), their play and value gets greatly diminished.

Tanev for 5 years no thanks. LA trade...no thanks. Think you have shortchanged the RFAs.

Idk, what you're suggesting about Holl. Are you saying he's better than a 2nd/3rd pairing? There's tons of guys in the league who fulfill those roles, hell even Jack Johnson does for the Pens lmao. There's value there, but he's not the answer on D for Toronto imo

2 million dollars is a good signing for both sides.

For the leafs, if this is a flash in the pan season it is about 900k above the amount waived by going to the minors or about 1 million more than you want to spend on your 7th defenseman. If he's a 5th or 6th defenseman it's fair value. If he's a second pair defenseman it's very good value. If hes a top pair defebsmena (highly unlikely) it's incredible value.

He's playing like a second pairing defenseman now so if he keeps that up this is a super win. If he regresses to a third pairing defenseman it's fine

From his point of view he wasn't an NHLer 2 years ago. He has proven himself a competent NHLer and is Infact playing top 4 minutes. He gave up a chance to potentially try to get a little more to guarantee him 3x league min for 3 years. That's some great security.

Win-win

See above. Just because he isn't the "answer" doesn't mean it isn't a good contract. But you are right he is unlikely to be a top pairing d. We still need one of those

I'm almost suggesting the Leafs and probably other teams don't have this ridiculous numbering system. It's about as ridiculous as numbering your starter in MLB, when all four guys get the same number of starts during the regular season. Is one pitchers start more valuable than another?
Take the Leafs. Is Reilly a # 1? Yea he plays the most minutes mostly due to PP. He plays rarely on the PK. If that makes a # 1 on Leaf...so be it. I just don't get it.
Some say Barrie is the # 1 RHD on the Leafs. I don't know what that means. Again he's a guy who isn't trusted on the PK. Ceci and Holl have those duties. I just don't know what a 2nd and 3rd pairing means on some teams and from my knowledge of the Leafs....the numbering system is meaningless.
Don't know what you mean that Holl isn't the answer s on D. He's a 2m player...Don't know if of any team that has "the answer" for all six defence positions. Betcha there are about 5 or 6 Dmen per team that "aren't the answer". Why is Holl different?
What I'm saying is a player (let's say Dman), is on the ice, the stupid numbering system is meaningless. It almost suggests that a 5th or 6th Dman can screw up, but it doesn't really matter because are number one and two Dmen will pull us out of the poor situation you bottom enders have created.

I had Holl getting a 3 year deal at about 1.5, it's a perfectly fine contract for a 3rd pair who can play a shut down roll on the second pair. What about the cap? So what, even with the Holl signing and the wing depth Leafs can move a Kap or Johansson for picks and Sign Pietrangelo at 10 and still ice a 22 man roster

What are you talking about? The numbering system in baseball is extremely important. Your number 1 starter gets the most starts and so on, same with hitters that's why teams put their 3 best hitters at the top of the order to get them the most at bats then it's your cleanup hitter, again same for for your rotation although, in terms of hockey you are correct sir.

Signing a UFA defenseman to huge money will look terrible sooner than later. How long until he's Karlsson?

Pass on pietro
