The value of the Rielly/Jones trade is fair imo. The Campbell trade I don't see happening. Is the value in that trade there? Yes.

Can you suggest another 1st pair D instead of Schultz?
I thought of Krug but dont have enough money for him as he will get 8 to 9, maybe even 9+.

There isn't alot of first pair D coming up as UFA that won't make big bucks. That's the stumbling block...giving one of the top pair guys 8-9+ million. Getting such a D means guarantee of losing Andersen as a UFA.

We'll agree to disagree. Jones is an elite 2-way D and Rielly is an elite offensive D. I guess the extra players are in there because of that 2-way play.

Honestly, I'm on the fence and you know him much I love Jones. Would I make this trade....probably, would it make our team better....yes and no. Part of the reason I want Jones so much is because I want to see him and Rielly paired together and Johnsson drives play on his own and would be a bigger loss than most think IMO.

That being said, and taking emotion and bias out of the equation this would help us keep Andersen which is funny because I literally just had that thought and was contemplating doing a ACGM on it to see if leaf fans would rather have Rielly or Andersen. So, to sum up, yeah I'd probably pull the trigger on this but I would have to seriously consider it. It would probably help if Anderson came back as part of it even if we have to add a bit more.

Always coming out with the brain teasers... I love it!

Think CBJ declines this, they already have their offensively very capable 1LHD in Werenski. Moving Jones would leave a big hole for their right side.

If this move were to happen though, I think Gustafsson as UFA could be an option to pair with Jones...

I'm not so sure about that, we are definitely giving up more value. Jones> Rielly but only because of his two-way play and not by much. Johnsson is a bigger loss than most think IMO, but it's not far off. As for Campbell... I'm not as high on him as a lot of people but he'd be an upgrade on what we currently have.

I think Rielly plays both ways. Maybe one way slightly better than the other but he is no slouch defensively. The myths of jones grow taller and taller every day.

Last I heard he was 12 feet tall and scored goals from the hotel room.

Fair enough, they already have Werenski so Jones is more valuable to them. But n terms of value do you think it's fair?

Eh...I'd keep the trade as simple as possible. As soon as you start adding more players to a deal it gets complicated.

Have to agree with Jamiepo. Both are #1D, roughly the same age, same contract length, both drafted top 5. Rielly has a ton of value, not to mention leadership. It's not that he can't play defense, just that he doesn't do it all the time. Johnsson and a 3rd is more than the difference between the two. There would have to be a player coming back the other way.

My high risk preference for a pairing with Jones would be Sandin. Sandin and Keefe are a match made in heaven, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the kid taking steps. Then sign an undervalued defensive-minded LHD for the second/third pairing (e.g. Edmundson) who can play on the PK. Given that Schultz is right handed, he'd be best used on the other side anyway.

This was about discussing value, yes I think i had the Leafs overpay a bit.

I dont believe this is trade that would happen in reality, but this is for fantasy and fun right??
