Gotta think Simmonds cost us more then a middle prospect and a 4th when they are retaining money

Not really. He cost less than that last year and I think he was retained? (Im not sure, thats why there are multiple conditions so that the pick can become even 3rd easily.)

Why are we trading for a goalie who is playing pretty crappy in the A?

He's been p good when he's gotten looks in the NHL, and is CAR's future starter, they should easily reject

They can hope he's their future starter but most goalie prospects don't pan out. It's as simple as that.

The guy has played two NHL games. He was good in them. It's also such a small sample size it's essentially irrelevant.

He was okay last year in the a and bad this year and the year before that.

He was okay in junior.

Goalie prospects are weird so he may still have some future upside but for right now? I have zero interest in playing him in the NHL now

Simmonds and Lewis trades I like... don’t see Carolina making that deal though and I’m not sure nedeljkovic is the right fit for the leafs anyways. Someone with a little more NHL experience would be better and probably wouldn’t cost quite as much - Alex stalock for example.
