Hertl isn't helping the Sabres making the playoff this year. Hertl is a UFA in 2022...two full seasons. Just thinking a building team like the Sabres should keep that first pick, and spend 5.6m (Hertl's cap) on other player(s). Now if I'm a true Cup contender, yea maybe a make that deal as posted.

Hertl would definitely help the sabres this year and the other one. He is on pace for another very good season despite the fact that san jose is atrocious. Sabres would have a very good one two punch with eichel and hertl. Buffalo still have depth problem down their line up but acquiring a guy like hertl would help definitely.

Of course the flip side is that a late first is a whole lot less appealing than the top 8 pick that the sabres are heading for.

See this is the kind of trade that makes sense for the Jets for example, good team who could use a good center and a guy that'd help them for this season and two more so not throwing away a 1st on a rental.

But for Buffalo I'm just not sure it's that good of an idea, yes Hertl would help but if you miss the playoffs that pick will be a good one plus Middlestadt was a 1st and if Hertl wants to go to UFA you've got a decision to make in 2022, yeah you'll recoup a decent asset or two maybe but was it worth it? Idk if it is, just don't think this is a good move for Buffalo at this time.

Once again, Hertl is not for sale and if he was talk starts with your best prospect. No interest in this package
