Why is Travis Dermott making 3250000 he doesnt play huge mins and doesnt have great numbers. Dont get me wrong i like him and he is just going to get better but pay a guy for what he is not what we think hes going to be.

Colorado gave Girard 5m X 7 last summer, whose contract starts in next season, and his numbers aren't all the much different than Dermot's. Maybe teams are going to "overpay" their RFAs if they think they are long term good value. Now a 4 year deal as proposed leads Dermott right into UFA. So a modest two year deal or a six year deal might be the two terms wanting by Leafs/Dermot.

As for the dollar figure I had placed on Dermott I feel is the fair offer. As for the term I didn't look into the RFA years and considering it now you are correct and would say 2 year 2750000 or 6 year 4000000

I believe you're totally right - CapFriendly is not the right place to get good speculation on contracts. Holl was given 2 x 2M, and he plays 20 minutes with PK duties, compared to Dermott's 14 minutes. This sets a comparable within the team. A good comparable outside the team would be Matt Grzelcyk with the Bruins, who got a bridge 2 x 1.4M. Add the usual (and inexplicable) Toronto inflation to that number and I think that's what Dubas is planning. Something close to what Holl got.

Samuel Girard is not a comparable case here. Girard played above 1 PPG in the juniors and was already considered to be a top pairing D prior to signing. He was only drafted late because of size.
