Massive overpay in the Chicago trade

I love a good joke when I hear one! Not sure I'll hear a better one in 2020. CHI passes all day long. Take out the 2nd and they MIGHT consider.

Saad is a cap dump and Gustafsson sucks on defense and you want more?

What I don't want is the 29th pick and a mediocre prospect for Gus who would 100% replace...JACK FREAKIN JOHNSON on your top pair. I can't believe he's still playing hockey to be honest with you, but yet...He's on PIT's top pair. What is that nonsense, And Galy who stinks for Pit, Yeah, I'm asking for a somewhat decent trade. This isn't it.

Johnson's actually been playing much better. He's an offensive black hole but on defense he's solid and he's a very good penalty killer. And believe me Letang and Schultz NEED to play with a defensive-minded partner or we're going to give up 10 breakaways a night. I'm interested in Saad but his contract is going to kill us unless Chicago retains a couple million and for that they'd probably want our entire prospect pool. I just don't see a fit honestly

I can appreciate your optimism AND breaking down the fit between line mates. I'd agree that the fit between D pair is a BIG deal, but at the same time you're defending Jack Johnson to be on the top pair. I actually agree with you that Saad MIGHT not be the best fit. Gus however I think would be a perfect fit. Let's take Saad out. Gus for the 60th pick in the draft? PIT has a ton of cap space. I don't want Samuel or Nathan. You probably won't trade Fillip which is fine. The 2nd?

***EDIT*** The source is Nick Holden, Brandon Davidson, Michal Kempny (while being a healthy scratch) all got 3rd rounders straight up. Gus plays 21 ATOI.

Oh I'd definitely do it for a 2nd rounder but we don't have our 2nd this year so it'd have to be next years 2nd.

oh boy talk about jokes! Jesus and exo2769.

1 saad is not a cap dump. he is a good skater and solid two way player.
2 Gustafsson is A skilled defenseman with some nice offensive skills. Can quarterback the powerplay and able to log big minutes. Has good vision and an edge to his game. Good release. He is also a ufa so his value is not high.
3 Poulin is far from mediocre prospect he would be on Canada wjc team minus his injury.
4 JOHNSON is one of 3 ld taking time on the top pair until Dumoulin returns. Johnson has been very good this year on defense and pk. that is value of both players and asking price. Johnson on the top pair is do to injuries only.

There are 2 things I disagree with. A.) Poulin being that good of a prospect. The Q is the easiest league to score and he'd be the 7th to 8th best prospect in most farm systems. It just so happens that PIT has the 28th to 31st ranked farm system so PIT fans think he's actually something decent. B.) Gus isn't worth nothing. He's worth something. Just debatable what he's actually worth. To PIT he should be worth a lot. PIT doesn't need to keep him past next year. Being a UFA is a PLUS @ the TDL not a minus.

While not a cap dump, Saad's contract is bad. While he might be only the 5th or 6th worst contract in Chicago (including those on LTIR), he would be the worst contract in Pittsburgh, including Jack Johnson.
