Hometown guy. Maybe he can turn things around and go back to being a decent second pairing Dman

So basically the overall trade is:

Give Up:
Mike Reilly
2020 4th SJS

Get:
Marco Scandella
2021 5th OTT
Andrew Sturtz

Montreal trades back a round in exchange for evening out which years they have their picks in and upgrading Reilly. Nice.

Hard to judge. I guess Kulak is the new #7?

No chance. Scandella and Kulak can fight for #6D.

I called this back in the offseason, when it SHOULD have happened based on the team needs and players available.. That was before knowing Chiarot was as legit as he has been. So Im glad I was wrong about that but what is the point of Scandella now? Guess Kulak is the odd man out? Maybe Fleury gets sent back to Laval?

Fleury > Folin.

I imagine Kulak is the 7th

I agree but then you have a 7th dman making 1.85M for 3 years sitting in the stands when he's not good enough to crack the lineup.

Just seems like a waste. Next year its Chiarot, Mete and Romanov so I guess he sits again............... if that's the case, trade him. 1.85M is too much for a bench warmer.

I think this is an even exchange. I had Scandella going for two fifth-round picks in my Buffalo trade deadline scheme because I didn't think he was worth the third all the Buffalo guys were advocating, which was called "garbage" by one genius, so I guess I should feel vindicated by the actual deal.

Meh, until MTL start getting tight with the salary cap. no rush to move him. but yeah if Habs start getting close to the cap, move him.

If Canadiens are out of playoffs run, I guess they will trade Scandella, Tatar, Byron and Thompson

Yeah that is true, I keep forgetting the Habs have more cap space then they can actually spend if they wanted to........ paying depth more than they deserve isn't really a problem until you need cap for more important things.

Would have felt better by sending over the Jets 4th round pick...but a difference of 16 picks wont kill us. Overall, probably a fair deal....doesn't change the needle much for Montreal though....

Don't get Buffalo swapping Scandella for Frolik, Scandella is the better player

If we get the Minnesota Scandella, it will be a steal.
If it is the Buffalo Scandella, Im still happy to get rid of Reilly's contract next year.

I guess I would see this as a good sign for Romanov travel over the Atlantic next year.

There’s no reason to trade Tatar/Byron. Neither have 1 YL.

Wasn't it Bogosian that requested the trade out of Buffalo and not Scandella??

Scandella is definitely better than Reilly, even if only marginally, and they clear a contract space for next season, plus get a home town player and they pick up a minors player for their injury-depleted AHL squad. Good asset management by Montreal so we can call it a win but this will barely have any real impact in their overall season however since they are all depth players and late round picks moving

There's virtually no way Scandella is worse than Reilly. If Scandella can prove to be a 3rd pairing defensemen, he's already better than Reilly.
