Both of these deals are embarrassing. Backes contract sucks, Simmonds hasn't been great but with retention I'm sure he'd get a 2nd rounder in return.

I think Toronto fans would welcome that deal. Quick google search of any Leafs fan site and they have wanted to trade him for a while.

NJ had interest in Backes to help groom their kids. I’d jump to a 3rd with Backes but don’t think Simmonds is worth much more.
