Petry to Winnipeg

Created by: AmericanSniper
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 2, 2020
Published: Jan. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Jets need a RD badly. Petry is a surefire top 3 guy who can play 1RD for the Jets.

The Leafs gave up a lot when they acquired Muzzin, who had 1.5 years left on his deal.

1st round pick
Durzi (2018 2nd round pick)
Grundstrom (2016 2nd round pick)

Petry is clearly superior to Muzzin. He puts up more points and plays heavier minutes. I believe that a 1st round pick and Vesalainen would be a fair trade. Vesalainen was a late 1st in 2017 who has upside but hasn't had the smoothest transition to the NHL. His value is similar to that of Grundstrom + Durzi. The Jets get a top defenseman to go on a playoff run and Montreal makes a trade to accelerate the re-build.

WPG hands are tied until Byfuglien stuff is over. Really not much they can do (with serious cap considerations) until then...

Muzzin is better defensively, but Petry has found his offensive niche in Montreal. They're comparable

and like you said with the Byuf saga, if Byuf does come back, Winnipeg is more desperate for a LHD. Byuf/Pionk is a decent right side, but behind Morrisey they have no one

This isn’t the year for Winnipeg. No point in making any moves especially with Buff and Little our for god know how long. Better to ride this year out and our 1st Amy be a lotto pick.
Also I don’t think the going rates for players are going to be as high as some posters think. Costs will probably be down unless it’s an absolute blockbuster. Scandella just went for a 4th.

laugh Vesalainen is a 1st round pick, And you honestly think that Petry is worth 2 1st round picks? Yeah No he's heading towards the wrong side of 30.

Vesalainen's value is less than a 1st round pick right now. He is having a mediocre D+3 season in the AHL and has not shown top 6 upside in my opinion. I clearly explained why Petry is worthy of this package in the description above.

If we see things like that I'm really frustrated that we didn't trade Beaulieu for a first round pick to Buffalo, the 3rd rounder we got back then is disgusting.

Come on be real, you still think he's worth a first?

What makes you think that Petry has any interest in Winnipeg? He chose to sign in Montreal because it's still within 400 miles of his Michigan home whereas Winnipeg is 1400 miles from Detroit. He can block 15 teams on his no trade list. And i wouldn't be surprised if Winnipeg isn't on his 15 team no trade list.
