Possible goalie situation resolved

Created by: tony135420
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2020
Published: Jan. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs have proven they have more than enough depth to allow them to move one of Johnson and/or Kap. LA gets a solid LW that can play top 6 and a what should be a higher 3rd round pick. Ceci for cap purposes. Leafs get their backup for the next couple of seasons and a Defense man that can play the right side with an extra year and has a history with Muzz. Fair?

Think it’s more than fair. Is 32 year old Martinez an upgrade on ceci this year? Could the leafs do better with the cap space next season? Leafs give up Johnsson and a third on top. Not sure I like this deal.

Martinez gives you another dman undercontract since the whole blueline is gonna be up. Campbell helps , its not a bad deal.

I think that is actually a detractor to be honest. I'd rather use that capspace to re-sign Barrie.

I’m not convinced Barrie is the guy they resign. I think he may get more than what the Leafs are willing to part with via free agency. Martinez is a low risk investment. 4M is not very pricy at 1 year remaining and may entice Muzzin to sign at a cheaper cap hit. It could also free up Pietro money. Would still require a move or two. My guess is Barrie gets anywhere between 6.5-8 on the open market. I’d rather spend 4M on a 2nd pairing d-man and throw whatever you can at Pierre assuming he hits the market.
