What is AA even worth

Created by: TheWolfe
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 18, 2019
Published: Jan. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I honestly have no idea. On one hand, he's an upcoming RFA and a player still well under the age of 30 with great speed and offensive upside. But he's proven to be a complete defensive liability and his point production has fallen off a cliff lately.

I still think an team like Edmonton that's in the hunt and could use offensive depth could use a player like him, but what is the realistic price?

Nyquist netted us a 2nd and a conditional 3rd and he was a UFA. I find it hard to believe a team would even give up a late first rounder for AA but maybe with the right assets coming from Detroit they would? Someone like a LGD packaged with the deal in exchange for an expiring contract going the other way?

Would love to hear some thoughts

2nd round pick imo is the value you should be happy with.

If it's an early 2nd I'd be all over it, but that's likely not going to be the case. Unfortunately for Detroit, I feel like the time to trade AA for max value has passed unless something drastic changes

I think he'd be a good fit for Edmonton and Holland should make it happen before their season is lost.

I think Athanasiou is worth a 2nd and a B grade prospect.

One idea I had was AA and LGD in exchange for Manning (cap dump) and whatever picks make it work. In this case, probably a 2nd and a 3rd. Though i do wonder if Detroit could trade their second to move up and grab a 1st rounder from someone else.

I'd do Caleb Jones+Puljujarvis rights for AA that's a pretty decent return for the kind of season AA is having.

Yeah I think that works somewhat, don't see
Edmonton wanting Glendening but maybe, Oilers 3rd is spoken for probably to Calgary from the Neal/Lucic swap so would need to be their 2021 3rd.

Sheahan is a good 4C, has been a decent 3C in the past in the right situation.

His value has tanked this season. I’d say keep him, give him or let him get a one year arbitration deal, and trade him next year. Hopefully his production improves

Oilers can wait 10 more games and it might be a 3rd you get for that disaster!

This place really undervalues him. He's only a year removed from a 30 goal campaign, has speed, size and hands. His defensive liability is incredibly overblown, as he's on a horrendous team defensively (on pace to set a record for the worst goal differential in a season). Don't get me wrong, he's still bad defensively, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. If they don't get at least a POTENTIAL 30 goal scorer, legit top 4 defenseman, A- prospect AND mid level pick or a 1st round pick, you don't move him. You qualify him, hope he breaks out next year and move him then. He obviously doesn't want to be here, but he's also not going to get moved for below his value.

But for that low of a price it makes no sense to trade him 2 more season before he is a UFA.

I agree AA is undervalued on here but your suggestion for a potential return at this point is really overvaluing him. Even qualified and a rebound season I'm not sure you get anything close to that for him, I think his RFA status and potential to rebound should get a decent return for him if he's traded. I honestly think a
B+ prospect that's NHL ready and a 2nd with maybe an extra sweetener thrown in is fair and what he'll probably go for if traded though I think the Wings should try to extend him and keep him as part of the core with Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri and hopefully Lafreniere, I really hope the Wings get Lafreniere.

You mean to tell me, that if they qualify him and he scores 30 again next year, that they can't get a better return for him?!? Teams will be lining up for that..... My main point is that they shouldn't sell low.
