Pelech Out - Sadness In

Created by: MoreOfAnIslesGuy
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2020
Published: Jan. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What do we do? Pelech is one of the more underrated defensemen in the NHL - pure top 4, arguably top 2 shut-down defense that is unparalleled across the league. One of the best (and admittedly most underpaid) players to play on this team is gone for the rest of the season with an achilles. Our defense is still good; but i've seen comparisons drawn to when De Haan went down with an injury a few seasons ago and the season was practically over. In my opinion, Pelech is better. We have more competent coaching and most solid replacements now but I'm still worried about this. Should be play Dobson on the top or should we instead get Leddy up there, or maybe Toews and play Sebastian Aho?

Someone suggested to me earlier:

Leddy-Pulock
Toews-Mayfield
Dobson/Aho-Boychuk

Not sure how they're gonna handle Aho and Dobson. Personally, I'd like to keep Leddy and Boychuk together, pair one of the rookies with Mayfield and play them in sheltered minutes and then put Toews on the top pair with Pulock. N

Time to give Dobson consistent shifts. He’s looked great in every game he’s played. Call up Aho as our new 7th defenseman.

I'm a big fan of the Leddy-Boychuk line and don't think they play the same separately.

If Aho is just going to sit, I'd rather send him back and bring up Hickey. I know we'd lose the cap relief but they've got the space

Hickey is hurt and no timetable for his return

What about Andy Greene, LHD from Jersey?
He's a ufa and Lou would probably love him! Gives him probably his last chance of a good run. He'd might waive his ntc to come to the island.
When trying to gauge his value I looked at Lovejoy to Dallas last year which brought back a third and Connor Carrick (5th Rd pick).
How about 3rd in '20 & Bobo Carpenter (no idea how he's playing so adjust as necessary)

I love this!

From a NJ perspective. We don't need him at all (we have similar players already in our system)

I had heard in the Isles game the other night that you lost a lhd for the season and thought it would help.
But do you have those players for your PO run?
I'm not touting him as some #1 D but he would help your team, NVM

Dobson and Aho are the main ones that come to mind (Pelech should also be back for the playoffs with any luck). But if he isnt, I'm sure Dobson, Aho or maybe even Hickey could play a good game or 2.
