Buy Low On Rickard Rakell

Created by: bruinsdude77
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2020
Published: Jan. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rickard Rakell is hurt and is again falling short of his magical 2017-18 campaign. Yet, even at his scoring numbers from last year and this year, he is still a tremendous bargain.

Rakell is the perfect fit for the Bruins as somewhat of a Charlie Coyle inverse. He could excel as the skilled right-shot RW the team desperately needs on the second line, but in a pinch can play third-line center as well.

The Ducks are loaded in skilled forward prospects, but are also one of the worst teams in the league. They need to push forward with a rebuild. A top defensive prospect like Lauzon plus a high pick to add another defensive prospect should intrigue them, plus a different type of young forward that most of their prospects in the hard-working, gritty Kuhlman and some punch and familiarity with Nick Ritchie's brother Brett. All three of these players are impending RFA's under team control. For the purposes of managing contract limits, the Ducks also send Hakanpaa, who is a low-level minor league depth defenseman in my opinion. Although if they didn't mind throwing in Derek Grant instead, I wouldn't mind that depth addition for the stretch run. Odds are he's worth something on the market this year though.

I didn't mock it, but I would not mind at all if Kampfer stayed in Providence through the rest of the regular season and the Bs added another affordable depth addition up front. Tyler Ennis would be the top option who could fit under the the cap, although Rocco Grimaldi and the aforementioned Grant would also be options. With some salary retention, the likes of Joe Thornton, Zach Kassian, Jesper Fast, and Johan Larsson are other interesting possibilities.

there's buying low and there's robbery.

The condition brings it close, but the ducks will need better prospects than Kuhlman and Ritchie is almost no value. Those two combined equate to somewhere around a third/fourth.

For once we agree.
But rakell would be terrific with kreji. They would be the team to beat.

This sucks. Rakell may not be as good as he was two years ago, but he still has a lot more value than you're giving up here.

Why would ANA sell low on their YOUNG cost controlled winger on a fantastic contract with decent term... Especially bc while they have a lot of forward specs, pretty much the only ones that have the potential to be as good as him are Kase, Zegras, and MAYBE Steel... And you haven't learned the first thing to learn about looking at ducks stats, just throw out everything from last season... They had the black hole of a coach known as Randy Carlyle last year, he literally tanked every stat for every player last year... As soon as he got fired, boom they went back to compitency, and this year aside from Getz (age) and Manson (idk) every player has bounced back to a varying degree or had a breakout year (obv Raks hasn't been as good as two years ago, but he's shown lots of flashes, he's seemingly had like 20 different linemates, and the ducks have had a lot of inuries)

I'd rather take Carlo over Heinen if I'm ANA, but that might be too much.

Can someone explain to me this idea that Rakell, is all of a sudden a reasonably attainable player from Anaheim? Like because he's isn't scoring 30+ goals, Anaheim is willing to just get rid of him?

Anaheim has as much incentive to just keep this guy if they don't get a solid good offer. He's cheap, he's an Anaheim lifer, he's still producing good numbers on a bad team, he's only 26 years old......... like what reason does ANA have to sell low on this guy?

Some players hold high value regardless of whether their numbers may have slipped. (Within reason of course but he doesn't have like 3 goals and 5 assists either) Rakell is one of those players. Brenden Gallagher is another example. Even if Gally wasn't scoring he'd still invaluable to the Habs and they'd still ask for top dollar.

Rakell's lower than normal numbers have more to do with the team than him not being as good as he was two years ago. Put him on playoff caliber team next to two solid players and he'll be back up to 60-70 points. Obviously health has stopped him from going further but its not as bad as like Ondrej Kase for example whose been marred by injuries every year he's been on the league.

Not saying what you are offering is bad at all but if I'm Anaheim, that pick is a guaranteed 1st, not lottery protected and the prospect isn't Lauzon, its Vaakanainen. To help appease Boston since the price is high, Ana could take back Moore and/or Miller instead of Kuhlman and Ritchie to give some added cap flexibility to the Bruins as a cherry on top.

That would be my cost for moving Rakell if I were Anaheim. If no ones bites, I'd just keep him.
