Anton Khudobin will be the goalie to sign in the offseason I wouldn't be surprised if a team desperate for goaltending signs him at 3 years 6mil per.

At this current moment in time

Holtby, Griess Nilsson, Markstrom, Lehner, Condon, Domingue, Raanta, Khudobin, Kinkaid, Miller, and a couple of more are in the final year of their contracts, there's gonna be a lot of goalies to aim for, not only Khudobin. I don't know if I'd have Khudobin in the top 5 of these goalies here alone.

I’d say Lehner, Griess, holtby, Markstrom, Raanta and then khudobin.

Seig is amazing and should playing. He’s absolutely better than djoo. Move him to the right side where he normally plays. And move up 1 of the 2 prospects. Don’t signed tvr no reason. Seig is better for the same price. I would love to move Pánik and let mcmicheal or somebody from Hershey get a shot at the NHL

Wow sorry about that, trying again.

Is there another C that the Capitals should look to add instead of Backstorm?

OK gotcha, well Backstrom is the top center in free agency this summer so if they moved on they have Granlund, Haula and Pageau as the top free agent centers available to sign and those guys are more of 3C's then 2C's, not sure if Granlund even plays center either so unless they went the trade route it doesn't seem like there's a lot out there and with not having early draft picks for so long I doubt the Caps have the assets to give up to acquire a 2C, not one with much term anyway.

I think Backstrom takes a bit of a hometown discount and stays in Washington, that's my guess anyway.

Oh I'm sure it's a consideration, I think he'll age pretty well though. Idk, I'm not a Caps fan but Backstrom reminds me of a fellow Swede in Zetterberg who was still pretty productive later in his career, I could see Backstrom doing the same.

It's a tough call though I hear ya.

A 33 year old who's never been a starter? Have fun with that

Not a caps fan so missed this. Thanks. Was mostly just curious what their cap situation would look like

Haula will resign in Carolina in all likelihood, Pageau is anyones guess because he's a rental. Granlund will hit the free agent market, but if Backstrom does leave, you're better off moving Kuzy to the top line, Eller on the 2nd and taking someone like Granlund for the 3rd

Eh Granlund has looked like a #1-2 c at times in his career though not recently. I think Eller has always been a high end 3c. Never really showing that higher end offensive output

I think it's incredibly unlikely that Backstrom plays anywhere else but Washington for his entire career. Him and Ovi are like a married couple to the Caps, they're not going anywhere.

Backstrom has never been a super fast speed player, he's been a cerebral vision player that passes brilliantly and plays a good 2 way game. His style of play translates better to aging than say a Vrana whose game is built on his explosive speed.

What do you think about my guess on contract?

I had trouble predicting it.

So right now, it's a bit of a stalemate between GMBM and Backy. Backy wants 5 years, GMBM wants to give him 3. I think this may be a strategy by GMBM to get the AAV down a bit when he does eventually cave to 5 years. So I suspect it'll be 5 years 8 million, but if they do give him 6 years, the AAV will probably be what you have it at then.
