I think he’ll eventually be fired by the Habs. They’ve disappointed year in year out, but Bergy is trying his best to put together a contender on the ice.

Certain things are out of the control of the GM - for instance:

- underwhelming goaltending despite advertised
- no true top line or elite forward; just three lines of top 6ers
- fallback year from jesperi and domi
- injury

Really this team shouldn't have ever been viewed as a contender - they aren't there yet. Still, bergevin has managed to go under radar as playing a chess-like game in slowly improving. MTL has the most expendable assets in the league due to their large prospect pool. Two trades and this team could be a success, it's just a matter of knowing when is best to make them.

I'd give him until next trade deadline to get this team into a consistent playoff position

I don't think Bergevin will be fired, he's improving more and more every year. He's admitted he's made mistakes, and the longer he's GM, the better he gets IMO. I think Bergevin could easily win a cup with how he GM's. He just needs to draft some top talent and he can easily get the depth to win a cup.

Underwhelming goaltending and no elite forwards is entirely the fault of the GM. Also what can they possible trade for elite centres?

Not sure how. Since Bergevin has been GM, he's iced a competitive team every year. Not his fault the best goalie in the world decided to stop playing hockey after he got paid.

He gave a 31 year old 10.5 million per year until hes 39. Its 100% his fault

He gave a MVP goalie 10.5 Million and then he decided he was ECHL quality.

The goalie situation could have been better if he signed a good 2nd goalie. He didnt evaluate Kinkaid properly and he gave up after 6 games. That doesnt help Price because once again, he's overused.

He shouldn't be fired at the end of the season imo. Timmins (scouting staff) had done a bad job filling the prospect pool (bad 1st pick in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 (Galchenyuk as 3rd overall pick is meh), 2013, 2014). He's a good friend of Bergevin now so he'll keep his job but he should have lost it few years ago.

He might still have the job in 2021-22, a crucial year because he's signed until then and seems to have sold his plan to Molson

It's a well known trend that giving term to people over 30 is getting riskier every year. It's a young man's game, not understanding that is the GMs fault. Plus he's never had a franchise centre and has never done anything to get one. MB isn't a very good gm

There are tons of examples of goaltenders playing late into their 30's. What top end goalie was done by 35?

Lundqvist is still good at 37
Fleury is 35
Rinne is 37

There were no indicators that he was going to drop off, especially at 32.
