Melnyk is looking to sell high on him. If not good enough offer comes, they might keep him, but otherwise I see him gone.

A lesson for Dubas, that Mayfield contract is what Holl should have signed for.

Holl is like 28 so 3yr deal makes more sense. Mayfield got his 5yr deal when he was what? 25? Smth like that. Both deals are exceptionally good.

I guess we can say there is 1/2 million inflation rate from the 2 years ago to now....

Or we can say Dubas has done another slight over payment like his track record has proven.

3 years at 2M per for top-4 Dman is not overpayment. The inflation rate definitely the case.

We all remember during training camp Holl was consider a bubble guy not Top 4 material, right? If Dubas had resigned him in the summer, he would have saved himself some money.

Mayfield was a fringe player when he got his contract. He got more term for less money which was smart for both sides. Looks like a great deal for the team now but he is not the benchmark for anyone else, certainly not Holl.

They were smart to get Holl signed as early as they did. Teams tend to overpay in free agency to the tune of 4M x 4 or more. Remember Zaitzev?

Remember the coach during training camp? Remember Dubas signed Holl to a 2 year deal the summer prior?

Bloody cheap. Inflation has nothing to do with it. If it did, we'd be looking at at least twice as much for Holl.

Holl got lucky: it could have been Harpur, Schmaltz, Gravel, Marincin, Liljgren or Sandin who stole the spotlight and captured the 4th Dmen spot. If Holl was on the Bruins he'd be playing for Providence not Boston.

You have a very weird beef with Holl and Dubas.
They would never have signed him in the summer... Because he played 11 games the year before because babdick didn't think he could play. What GM resigns a player multiple years after playing 11 games? Harpur, Marincin, Schmaltz and gravel were nothing more than depth players everywhere they played. And they all got chances. Sandin was always going to be allowed to develop and liljgren wasn't ready. So Holl had a pretty good shot and it turned out he was better than them all.
Holl has proven to be a good nhl defenceman and they signed him to a fair contract. Maybe relax?

Holl got lucky and he got paid, I'll relax after the Leafs win a playoff Round or when Dubas is fired and I can tell you which will occur first.

mayfield was RFA at end of his deal and Holl was UFA. shut up about dubas. .5 for UFA vs RFA is pretty modest. grow up and stop getting so hard off dubas doing anything that you think is dumb.
