I doubt Armstrong wants to do the buyout but this is a simple way to manage the cap next year. Thoughts on the contracts?

i don't see vince dunn signing that deal, and i don't see stl wanting that deal. if he agrees to a sub-3m deal over two years, his next contract is easily 6m+ and he will be arbitration eligible at that time. dunn is already worth a deal in the range of 4.5-5m per year over 4-5 years. signing both dunn and parayko in the same offseason is likely impossible.

it's very likely that another player will have to move--bozak, allen, maybe even faulk or schwartz will have to go to make a pietrangelo deal work.

I agree, punting on the Dunn deal would be costly later on, but I think if they are trying to keep the gang together for one more year, he might only be offered the bridge deal. Best case would be that Faulk goes to Seattle in expansion and frees up some money in the defense budget.

Agreed on tbe Seattle front. I think his extension was two fold- insurance in case Petro doesn't resign or easy contract to give up to Seattle and keep Petro, Parayko, Dunn.

I think Allen gets dealt at the draft. Armstrong can lose him for nothing or at get a late second (or early 3rd rounder) for him. I'm assuming he does the latter considering Husso is probably ready for backup duty and Hofer is emerging as a fantastic goalie prospect right now.
I hope they buy out Steen, but if there's one thing Army hates it is buying out contracts

The best way to "move on" from Steen would be to trade him to a cap space flush team with a pick or something, have them buy him out, and then sign him back for league min, Brooks Orpick-style. The buyout is 3.5ish in 2020-21 and 1.5ish in 2021-22 so it's not a huge strain on the cap for a rebuilding team and the salary is low enough in real dollars that it wouldn't be a ton to pay out for those two years. Don't really care about signing him back in a vacuum, but letting him play through 2021 as his current contract runs and retiring with the Blues would be a good move, and it's league min so not a big commitment, and he's worth that. Also keeps Armstrong's no-buyout streak intact and doesn't straddle us with extra Steen cap the following year when we need to re-sign Schwartz, Kyrou, and Thomas.
