Edmonton can't trade that specific pick due to the circumstances of the Neal-Lucic swap. They'd also need the Hurricanes to eat some cap (Gagner, Manning, etc) in order to afford Nino.

I would very much consider that deal however.

How about this? We could use some insurance for Haula down the stretch.

Pass. I like Bean and Gauth but id much rather get a first back or a serious goalie/forward prospect.

Edmonton can make that work. This move helps Edmonton improve their forward depth without having to spend their 1st round pick. Recouping a latter pick helps stomach losing the 2nd Rounder in a deep draft.

I thought CAR was going for it? Why would they trade Nino?

Ooooooh, because he sucks this year. You want to trade Nino (1.12 P/60) to Edmonton for Gagner (1.63 P/60) AND Puljujarvi (whom Holland thinks is worth a 1st) AND a 2nd in the deepest draft in 5 years... somehow I don't see Holland going for that.

GAGner is a throw in to make the salary work, AND not to mention he is a UFA after this year. AND JP (who is only worth a 1st to Holland) is unproven and may not pan out at all. AND we have to get something of value for a top 6 player.

But seriously..
Edmonton needs secondary scoring and Nino played well down the stretch after a change of scenery last year. I think he would be more valuable to EDM than he is to CAR now that Foegele has stepped up his play. We need a RW, and whether that is Williams or someone else, we will not be able to slot everybody. Nino is the most valuable asset than we can stand to lose. We are up against the cap, so we need to ship someone out to be able to bring in what we truly need for a run this year.

Edmonton says yes if the ‘Canes retain salary, perhaps 1M, as the Oilers are pretty tight up against the cap. Alternatively we could throw in Brandon Manning’s contract, which (like Gagner’s) expires at the end of the season.
