Drastic times - Habs and Preds swap

Created by: rb1481
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2020
Published: Jan. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Habs and Predators make drastic moves to try and fix their season.

For the Habs, they would be getting out from the big years left on Price's deal and for the Preds they would be getting out from the years left on Turris' deal.

This is what the team could look like when everyone is healthy.

Habs have to add on any deal involving price. Or retain a huge chunk

Nah, Price is the best goalie in the world. NSH would have to add because Turris is a cap dump and Rinne only has 2 years on his contract. He can choose to leave which would leave MTL having Primeau as the starter, which is not all that ideal

It should be Saros and a 3rd/4th over Rinne

The Preds would almost accept the deal, but...

the value is way off. Price has an ES GSAA of -28.11 over the past 2.5 years and he got 6 years left after this season. Nobody will trade for Price unless the Habs add something really interesting

ES GSAA of -28.11 over the past 2.5 years. He was the best goalie in the league. Hasn't been for a while and will likely never get close again

ES = even strength
GSAA = goals saved above average

oh.

Welp Price still gets a bigger return than a cap dump and a half-decent goalie

Montreal rejects. Would rather hold onto Price and hope he comes back into his own.

Wait what? Rinne isn't a half-decent goalie. He's really good if you compare his advanced stats to Price (so don't just look at savepercentage). And for half the cap hit.

Price isn't worth anything tbh. Massive cap hit while he's nowhere near the goalie he used to be. No contender will make a trade for him because there are a lot of goalies at lower cap hits who're performing better. And Price will block any other trade with his NMC. Every contender would rather have Rinne than Price on the roster

Pass from Nashville:
Since the 16-17 season, 43 goalies have played 100+ games. Price's sv% (.912) is 25th and his GAA (2.64) is 14th. Rinne beats him in both categories {9th (.918) in sv% 5th (2.46) in GAA}. Sure Rinne is doing slightly worse this season but i still wouldn't trade him out for a 10.5M contract with 6 more years on it. Sure ditching Turris is nice but his caphit is only 6M and he has no trade protection. That's doesn't even go into signing bonus territory. Price's signing bonus in the last year of his contract is still 5.5M... only 0.5M less then it cost for Turris and Rinne is long retired by then.

Don't want the highest paid goalie in the NHL when he's playing as a league average goaltender.

You rwalize Rinne has more Vezna nominations then Price right? They are considered the 2 best goalies of the decade with Quick being #3
