No this is what I would do if I was JBB and was signing Justin Williams.

Why move Colburn? We have no defensive depth and have the cap space to keep him this year. Last year he was solid. This year I suspect an injury factored into his play. Schenn was a gamble that did not work. Foote has not been deemed NHL ready.

Depending on his contract structure his cap hit may be much higher due to time missed.

@nickkbowen25 is this 1.7m suppose to be straight base salary so JW gets 850k in actual money?

No he would get $1.7 Million for half the season. Remember he was on a $4 Million AAV deal in Carolina so this is a very fair contract since it would pay him $1.7 Million for only half a season. Just less of what he made in Carolina half a season but he’s also missed time so his body may not be in top shape.

It would not pay him 1.7m. In order to get him 1.7m you would need to give him a signing bonus of 1.35m and a base salary of 700k. Meaning a 2.05m contract. This is what Tampa will be charged to the accumulated cap but his cap hit will be inflated due to time missed. Somewhere around 3.5m.
