Whats Liljegrens Ceiling

Created by: NoWah49

Description
I'll always root for the guy, as he was the main defenseman on my GM Mode teams tracking back 5 years. I just wanted to know what Leafs fans see his ceiling as. It seems as if Sandin has jumped over him in terms of prospect rankings, but with the Leafs needed a RHD next year, Liljegren doesn't seem far behind.

I think on GM mode or Franchise mode (which are the same thing) he has lots of value, and is more valuable than Sandin, who also had an unnaturally high value jump

top pairing defenseman is ceiling, but I personally see him more as a #3 guy. Definitely a great pick at 17th overall and he would be an amazing two-way Dman for Leafs. Better than Dermott.. not as good as Sandin who has #1 potential.

I think Liljegren’s ceiling he could be as good as someone like John Klingberg. Sandin’s ceiling is likely Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Not necessarily true.. I would say Liljegren would be like Anton Stralman, defensively reliable two way defenseman.. but with longer career as he is 20 and already NHL ready. Sandin I would say someone like Duncan Keith.

Yeah I had Stralman in mind as well, more of a 2-way defenseman. I can see the similarities to Keith in the way Sandin skates & moves the puck, although IMO Keith was the best defenseman of his generation.

I don't know where Lijlegren lives so I can't inform you about the specifics of his ceiling. I'd imagine it's a standard lath and plaster.

In NHL 18, I always started my franchise modes pre-expansion draft so you did the 2017 draft too. Liljegren is always a low elite 67-69 OVR to start and always falls to the early 2nd round so I would always grab him. Takes him like a year before he’s NHL-ready and then he’s an assist machine.

As for real life, idk, I hate the Leafs but really want to see him succeed. Hopefully he’s still got top-4 potential.

Totally but a better version of Stralman as he is more gifted physically than Strallman

Really? Rielly is an elite talent, I am not sure Sandin is going to be that good.

As I said, he is going to be like Duncan Keith. That good. Rielly is good offensively but lacks defensively to an extend where you need defensive defenseman with him.

I just don't see the same thing as the mob in regards to Rielly, although he does seem to lack a bit of a step this year in his lateral movement. The current Rhetoric that Hainsey is the reason why Rielly was good last year is a huge joke, Hainsey sucks. Rielly is terrific and if he's dealing with a nagging groin issue, which is what his movement sometimes makes me think he is dealing with, that would explain some of his issues this season. For example, the media made it sound like Laine turned him inside out a couple of games ago but if you watch the replay, Rielly made a great play to block the initial shot which was the more dangerous chance but the puck bounced right back to Laine who shot it past an out of position Andersen. A broken play and Rielly takes the blame. McDavid does a move that I am not sure any defenceman in the world would have been able to stop and of course Rielly gets the blame. Rielly could make 100 amazing defensive plays in a game and make one mistake and that is all many people will see. It was the same thing with Nylander all season, he has been consistently terrific this year but many people only see stuff like him not backchecking hard at the end of along shift. Its really hard to be a reasonable fan these days.

Sandin CAN be a #1, probably a #2, Lilja CAN be a #2, probably a #3, Sandin is also closer to NHL ready, I really just don't see all that much special in Lilja
