Grubauer is
1) Younger
2) Cheaper
3) Achieving similar or better on ice results then price

Even if you believe Price's results are because Montreal is just that much worse than Colorado... no GM is going to take the risk that comes with Price's contract while also giving up the 16th overall from 2018 and the 4th overall from 2019. Price is making the most $ for a goalie in the league while barely getting to league average performance. He also has full NMC further depreciating his value. Honestly... if Montreal retained 50% i still wouldn't do that trade. Maybe 1 for 1 for Grubauer but not with Kaut and Byram as add-ons. Even then... all the risk is on COL. If Price doesn't rebound, they have a bad bonus filled contract that will only get worse with time.

As an add on, no on the Tatar trade as well. That's essentially 2 1sts for Tatar and 2 4th round picks. New Jersey will battle for 25-30th in the standings (i don't think any team will manage to out do Detroit). So that's going to be a VERY early 2nd round pick.

Also Detroit isn't going to give up the likely 1st overall.

I wouldn't even do 1 for 1 for Price. Just bc of the facts you list. Grubis play is at or better than Price, and even once he is extended, his cap hit is still going to be less than Price with the minimal retaining that would happen. Price at 9-10m takes away cap space from additional areas and weakens the team. Really you can be getting worse in net and worse in another position trying to shoe horn him into the Avs roster

No one wants to trade or invest significantly in 32-33 year old goalie with declining numbers.

Hahahahahahahaha that Price trade. When will Habs fans realize that NO contender will ever trade for that contract. Price is not the goalie he used to be. He has an ES GSAA of -28.11 over the past 2.5 seasons. He's playing really bad and his contract is even worse. You want a future 1st pairing guy, a solid starter and a decent prospect for a massively overpaid and declining goalie? Price will never get traded unless Habs start with 50% retained and an unprotected 1st round pick in the upcoming draft

actually Bobrovsky is as bad as it gets

Assuming his game doesn't get better, but I think he'll rebound eventually once he fully gets accustomed to FLA system.

but why doesnt Price get that "assuming his game gets better" ?

he has had stretches of good hockey this season too?

Florida is also a much better team than Montreal

Because price has been bad for over 2.5 seasons now.

not really

Andersen was significantly above average given the difficulty of shots faced.

Price and Bobrovsky were both about the same last year, but for the most part pretty average.

feel free to play around on here.
https://www.corsicahockey.com/nhl/players/nhl-player-stats/goalie-stats

Key stats to look at are dSV% and GSAA. Basically attempts to isolate individual goalie impact on the results, and compares it against what an average goalie is expected to do.

IF you do aggregate of the last 2.5 seasons as i said, price has been terrible. Last year was a good year for top line results but he was fairly average, and the other 2 seasons he has been terrible.
