Created by: Howyoudrouinnn
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2020
Published: Jan. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Theoretically, lets say the habs tank and end up with the 5th overall pick. Assuming Detroit wins the lottery, what kind of package would MTL have to give up to move 4 spots?
Trades
MTL
  1. 2020 1st round pick (DET)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
DET has 1st OVR, MTL has 5th OVR in this hypothetical.
DET
  1. Poehling, Ryan
  2. 2020 1st round pick (MTL)
  3. 2021 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
The most recent first round pick traded was in 2003 when FLA send the 1st OVR and a third to PIT for the 3rd OVR, a second, and Mikael Samuelsson. Basing the trade off that.

If this kind of trade was irrealistic in the Jack Hughes draft, so this trade is going to happen. Habs aren't even 1 Lafreniere from being a serious contending team. Habs could still be part of the draft lottery of 2021.

A lot. You're talking about maybe the best prospect since McDavid. What team would pass on the chance to pick him? You'll have to massively overpay with a 1st and some really good players/prospects

Throw in primeau and Detroit def considers it. Can't go wrong with 5th overall, another first next year and poehling along with goalie

It's going to take the #5 OA, another 1st and Caufield or Kotkeniemi and even then, not sure Detroit moves on it. AF is considered the best prospect since McDavid. There is a big difference between him and anyone else in the draft not named Byfield (who I have the Hawks pegged at getting lucky with). Guys like AF come around every 5 to 10 years.

Exactly, the Habs would have to give up a package close to the one given up by Philly in the Eric Lindros trade and that's not even worth it.

Does anyone know when the last time the 1OA pick was traded? 2003. Why hasn't it happened since? Because GM's aren't as dumb as they used to be.

Lafreniere isn't the next McDavid. Lafreniere is probably the best prospect since Matthews, which is only Hischer and Dahlin.

Take out the first rounder in 2021 and MTL may do it. 2 firsts, poehling, and primeau is a overpay considering its 4 spots.

I could see MTL doing this, might hurt them to offer it but its reasonable.

Not saying he's the next McDavid. Just saying he's considered to be the best prospect available since McDavid has been drafted. If you want him, you'll have to massively overpay since AL's virtual tradevalue is big. And 4 spots down isn't much in terms of spots, but definitely in terms of talent

I'd do it if the more was primeau. 2 firsts, kotkinemi and primeau?

The question isn't MTL doing this, it's would Detroit consider it? MTL should do that. AF is a guy that comes around every 5 years or so. He's not going to be McDavid IMO but the closest thing to it. Guys like Matthews, Kane, MacKinnon, etc. AF will be in that conversation but not quite Ovy or McDavid level.

That's just it. If the Wings can get several very good NHL prospects/players out of it by trading what is going to the be an elite guy, then makes sense as the Wings have a lot of holes to fill...moreso then MTL.

Players like AF are like one every 1/2/3 years.... Comparing him to MacDavid is definitely premature.

Guys Lafrenier is good, but he is not that far above the rest of his class. He is a late birthday who is lighting up a league that has no defence.

If MTL is at 5, this is a reasonable offer.

Montreal gets Detroit's 1st overall 2020 (Alexis Lafreniere)

Detroit Gets Montreal's 1st Round 2020 and 1st Round 2021 + Cole Caufield + Alexander Romanov

Price too high? Then bugger off!

"LALALALALAFRENIER". I would feel sorry for Lafreinier was drafted by Montreal. There would be so much pressure on him by the narrow minded, Quebec fans who think he is French saviour ala Beliveau and LaFleur.

I prefer not to get him specifically because of this. Especially if they need to overpay a ridiculous amount to move up on top of it.
