2020 TDL

Created by: KCarry74
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2020
Published: Jan. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Feel free to give your opinion! Any opinion is good when it's well explained :)
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Eakin, Cody
  2. Holden, Nick
  3. 2020 1st round pick (VGK)
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
I'm not assuming VGK are willing to do this. But here is how I see it :
Petry @ $2,75 /year is a steal.
Thomson is playing really well and could help 4th line, assuming Roy become 3c
Only way VGK affords Petry is by moving $$
VGK
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,750,000 retained)
  2. Thompson, Nate
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (MTL)
2.
MTL
  1. 2020 1st round pick (NYI)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
3rd becomes a 2nd if NYI reach ECF in either 2020/2021 and a first if they win the cup in any years.
NYI
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($2,150,000 retained)
Additional Details:
NYI have a lot of cap space this year but it could be harder next year (Barzal, Aho, Toews, Pulock). Locking up Tatar to $2,65/year could help them and also help scoring more goals.
3.
MTL
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Kovalchuk, Ilya
Additional Details:
I don't know if Kovy will continue is good work, but in 2 games he was good. He could surely fetch a pick somewhere.

Kovalchuk >Entire bottom line and hits more

Weal deserve's to be waived or traded as he doesnt block shots or hit so 4th line isnt an option

Lehkonen spent a lot of time with Gallagher and Plekanec in his early years so there's a chemistry there . He also played a lot of PK with Danault so there's some there as well making this your best option for MTL's top line . Drouin-Domi-Armia were tearing the PP new one and playing solid 5v5 hockey . Kovalchuk -KK-Suzuki gives options as if KK struggles then Suzuki can take center leaving KK and IK to battle along the boards and shoot .

Lehkonen-Danault-Gallagher
Drouin-Domi-Armia
Kovalchuk -KK-Suzuki
Cousins-Thompson-Byron

Poehlings not ready and is best off in Laval for the year like Lafleur said in reaction to him initially being sent to Laval

I agree with more or less 80%.

Line combination can be debated for 1000 years so i won't go there.

Kovalchuk is 36 yo. Habs are at least 2 years away of being a playoff team. Why on earth would you keep him ?
