Agreed. Probably more likely for him to take the McAvoy-type bridge anyway.

If Makar puts up 70-75 points in his rookie year as a defenseman, do you think his agent is going to settle for $7.5mil? Thomas Chabot signed last year for 8 years x $8mil, and he had 55 points in his second season.

Makar is a franchise type defenseman, and the Avs are well aware of that. He's staying long term to be their superstar blueliner, and he's going to be treated as such.

I'm sure that we will get paid and be their #1 dman, but I can see him making 7.5 for his next deal, he started off hot but as cooled after coming back from injury.. and I think they feeling in the locker room is take a little bit of money off to win a championship... I could be wrong

Sorry, I meant it more as a "If you're going to pay him, you might as well go for a bridge deal, since that's what seemed to be the popular method this past offseason". If it's long term though, yes, he can and should be paid as a franchise d-man.

Yeah, but most guys took the 5-6 year deals this offseason. Rantanen, Aho, Marner, Matthews all took 5-6 years and kept the aav manageable. I think that's what they're looking at with Makar, very similar to Rantanen.
