The Wild make that Pittsburgh trade and Leipold gets to fire his third GM in 3 years.

Well, Brodin is being handed away to Seattle if a move isn't made. This dumps the Rask contract and Johnson can play perfectly fine hockey on a third pairing and makes reasonable money. Maybe make the Pens pick a 1st then if it's such a bad trade? Bjugstad is a right-handed shot center and Fiala is the sacrifice to be able to keep everyone protected from expansion.

Brodin is a UFA like 2 weeks after the expansion draft...

It's an awful trade for MN.

Johnson isn’t needed. You have $6.5m in cap space, so there’s zero reason to pay to unload Rask when he can keep doing what he’s doing this season and be an injury fill-in. Fiala has looked really good this year since early November so he’s not a guy you trade to dump a bad contract and Bjugstad isn’t an upgrade over extending Koivu for free. @wabit already covered why Brodin isn’t anything to worry about when Seattle would take Soucy or Dumba over his expiring deal.

Aside from the trade, Khovanov isn’t going from junior to being the 1C either and if they acquired Bracco, he wouldn’t be signed for anything over league minimum because he hasn’t played a single NHL game yet.
