Trading reino for a 30 year old with a big contract is a no deal imo

I think he could be had for less. Then it is a question of just taking that contract. In my opinion the sharks should take what they can get on some of their older players on long term deals.

Like I get it in terms of value it's probably close since couture, other than being hurt, is still a good talent. It's just too risky to do this trade. Don't know if the sharks have hit that point yet.

Samson, while younger, is gonna get paid too and couture is a center and a proven playoff guy

It’s the fact they have so many

Burns, Karlsson, Vlasic, Couture, Kane And Jones.

Those players will tie up 47m in cap space till they are in there late 30’s.

I would be in panic mode if I were the owner. Very poor contracts for a team that will not make the playoffs this year and certainly won’t contend as that core declines.

Players like Kane and couture are pieces that can be moved. The rest they are stuck with. Mittelstadt and a 1st for couture and I think they should jump all over that. Might even be an overpay. Question is do the sabres want that contract in 4 years? And what about the 4 years after that?

8 years from now is a hilarious way to plan. Also, the cap will go up to the point that 8 million contracts are like 5 million contracts now. Now, also its dollars for dollars since it is replacing reinharts money

That’s why I said 4 years from now. Will they want it then? And why replace Reinhart with someone much older? This idea that bad contracts suddenly turn good because the cap goes up on older players is not true. A declining player is just that and regardless of the hit that money would be spent better on a younger player.

Also your calculations of an 8m contract looking like 5m hit would be a 132m cap. So somewhere around 2035-2040. Is that how long your I tending on extending couture?
